Early scan/HCG levels/Clearblue weeks indicator

Just wondered if anyone has any experience/knowledge/reassurance.

I am currently 6w2d pregnant. I have been worried about my HCG levels since I found out I was pregnant. My lines were very faint (but progressive) which then confirmed by digital test. I was obsessed with making sure the lines got darker until the brand I was using sold out and I couldn't get it from anywhere else.

Because I was worried I saw a suggestion to use a weeks indicator test and test a week apart to see if the weeks went up. I tested at 4w6d exactly and got 2-3 (about right) but I tested a week later, and at 6+1 and still getting 2-3.

Yesterday I had an early scan as midwife referred me as I was getting pain only on one side and they wanted to check for ectopic (which is also associated with low HCG)

The scan found the sac and yolk sac and she said everything was in the right place. She took measurements and said all looks normal which is reassuring, but she said I was only exactly 6 weeks there was no fetal pole or heartbeat to see yet. I have another appointment for 2 weeks time.

So my question is, would everything look normal if everything looked OK?
Because of low HCG do I need to be seriously worried that the fetal pole will not show up? Would I have a normal looking sac/yolk sac at this stage if my HCG was low?

Sorry but my anxious mind is in overdrive. Just don't want to give myself a glint of happiness if there it is unlikely. I know mot much can change the outcome but a 2 week wait might finish me off!

Thanks for reading the long post x

Hopefully some reassurance, I never got a 3+ on a clear blue digital and that baby is now a 1.5 year old boy! I also ended up in EPU with pains and they could see exactly the same as you but no heartbeat, I couldn’t wait 2 weeks so booked a private scan in for a week later at 7 weeks and the heartbeat was there!

Ive just found out I’m pregnant with #2 and so excited but defo just as anxious, I learnt from last time that an early scan too early actually made me more anxious so I’m holding out to until at least 7 weeks this time

Keep positive, this is out of your control but I’m hopefully for you x

Please speak to your midwife about the anxiety.

Pregnancy tests just tell you that you're pregnant, not how pregnant you are or if it will carry to term.

Dates can be unreliable at this stage. It all depends on when you ovulated, how long it took to implant etc. you could easily be about a week out depending on your cycle.

Thanks for replying. I have seen a few posts (after scouring the Internet for hours and hours 😏) that some people never see the 3 weeks, but HCG should be high enough to show which is why it's confusing. The majority of people who don't get it go onto loss so it just had me worried sick I guess.

I agree about the scan dates, I might pay for a 7 week scan just worried what they'll find and if it will make me worse!

Great news for you about another one on the way!

I don't want to bog them down. I already have anxiety but pregnancy sends it into overdrive, constantly worring if everything is OK.

the clearblue should show at least some progression of HCG at least.even now at 6w2d if i was 5w2d i should be showing 3 weeks +.

You won't be 'bogging them down' they are there for your health, both mental and physical, while pregnant.

There is support to perinatal mental health and they can refer you on for it.

As for the weeks indicator, it's all based on HCG levels and the AVERAGE amount at certain weeks. It's not an exact science at all. Dating a pregnancy this early is a lot of guess work.

To add to the good advice from @Twizbe - the urine tests are affected by how much you've drunk, how long since you last pee'd etc and the HCG ranges in pregnancy are super wide even for blood tests.
The fact your measurements are on track is reassuring, but I know it'll be a very anxious wait for that next scan. Definitely speak to your midwife, they're here to support you.

Just sharing my experience and i am 8 weeks and 1 day and i am getting barely noticable positive pregnancy test and on asda test they are negative went to have a private scan and baby is healthy so far, i wouldn't stress about the lines getting darker... If u are worried then contact ur doctor as everyone experiences pregnancy differently
