What time were you asked to attend for your elective?

I was in for 6am and was the first appointment of the day. My hospital has a few theatres so there was some specifically for c sections and the other was for emergencies. It was great as I wasn’t pushed back for an emergency.
Even though I was in at 6am, it was 9am that I was taken to theatre.

CaitCannoli · 17/01/2023 17:39

Was asked in for 7am, section went ahead at 8am (first of the day)

Chanel05 · 17/01/2023 17:45

I was booked in for 7am. Went into labour a week before this anyway

CosyKnits · 17/01/2023 17:47

I was asked to attend from 8am, went into theatre about 3.30pm. I knew that there were at least two sections ahead of mine, so was expecting to wait.

fizzyfood · 17/01/2023 17:50

7 am. They told me they did the c sections in order of risk. I was an older mum with high BP so was first!

drpet49 · 17/01/2023 18:11

My SIL went in for 7:30am but didn’t get into theatre until 6pm due to the number of emergencies they had that day

purpledino5 · 17/01/2023 18:28

Thanks everyone! I did think after I'd posted that I can't predict really as it depends on emergencies. I'm booked in for Friday and was chatting to mum about childcare/school run for DC1. I've been told to call 4pm on Thursday for a time to attend. I wondered if everyone was asked first thing and then wait your turn so it were, or if people were asked to get there at different times throughout the day.

Have you not been given your time in advance?

I had my time to come to hospital 4 weeks before the date!

purpledino5 · 17/01/2023 18:31

@CaitCannoli I haven't! I'm in tomorrow for bloods doing and been given a number to call after 4pm Thursday

7am for us and all electives that day.

Our hospital has 2 maternity theatres, one for electives and one for emergencies. Electives happen at 8, 10 & 12 unless any unforeseen delays with the previous one/s

purpledino5 · 17/01/2023 18:39

I don't mind so much waiting around once at the hospital (I say now!) I was more wondering about if it's first thing ie 7/8am I won't be available for school drop off and DC1 will stay at mums Thursday night. If it was later in the day, I would be around to do it.

I’d make plans for dc to be with your mum, we were meant to be second on the list but the lady that was first was booked because her baby was breech and on the day it had spun round and she was happy to labour, so the whole day got brought forward and a lady booked for the following day got called saying if she hadn’t had breakfast and was available she could come in for hers that day

xprincessxjanetx · 17/01/2023 20:17

Would have been 39+2 but I had complications so elected at 38+5 (booked it at 38+3!)

xprincessxjanetx · 17/01/2023 20:18

I am an idiot! Early pregnancy with new baby and totally took your post wrong!

I was asked to come in at 7.30. Was monitored, met surgeon and anaesthetist and was first on the list so went down just before 9am.

BabyB2022 · 17/01/2023 21:51

I need to attend at 11am as I've been given an afternoon slot. Expecting a wait, but least I don't have to stress about nursery drop off and have just arranged pick up!

purpledino5 · 18/01/2023 19:11

Sorry could I just ask also, was anyone given medication to take the morning of the section? I've seen people that have been given anti sickness/antacid meds but I've had nothing.

OP posts:
BCxx · 18/01/2023 19:15

Most hospitals seem to be, arrive for 7am and then just sit about waiting on your slot. You are at least told what order you’ll be going though when you arrive I think. My hospital is different and does two in the morning (who arrive by 7) and two after lunch (who arrive for 10). It means the later people are allowed to have a very early breakfast before 6am and can drink for longer

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 18/01/2023 19:15

Yes you have to take some tablets, you should be given the prescription for it at least a few days before as i had to go anf get it myself.

Got the date and time 1 week before c section (elective) had to be in for 10am, c section wasn't until 3 pm, no food after 6am

You should have hqd consent forms to sign etc?

BCxx · 18/01/2023 19:16

@purpledino5 i wasn’t given anything to take the night before as most people are but at my hospital you just take the anti acid medication when you arrive

4thonthe4th · 18/01/2023 19:16

7am for the first 2 - morning schedule

11am for the 3rd - afternoon schedule

they usually have a morning and an afternoon timetable

Beachsidesunset · 18/01/2023 19:18

In for 7am - second on the list, went in at 11am.
In for 7am - first on the list due to placenta previa, went in at 9am.
In for 7am - first on the list, bumped for 3 EMCS, went in at 5pm.

purpledino5 · 18/01/2023 19:24

@BCxx thank you, this is probably what will happen then I guess. I went for bloods today and thought it might be then that I got them but I wasn't given anything and don't see anyone now until I go in on Friday.

@Youcancallmeirrelevant yes, I had an appointment a couple of weeks ago when it was booked in and signed the consent forms etc then.

I call tomorrow after 4pm for my time to arrive.

Had to be at the hospital for 7am (particularly annoying as we live 1h45 away) and I went down for my C-section at 12pm. I didn’t get given any medication but I did get a fucking vile drink… can’t even remember what it was tbh.
