Hey just a general question, just wondering how many weeks pregnancy were you when you started your maternity leave 😁

Thanks

Nurse - 36/ 36/ 32 and then 36

Raspberry290 · 16/01/2023 16:30

In my last job I was 37 weeks, though I think I could have done with going off a week or so sooner. The job involved long hours and lots of time on my feet. This time I’m in a much easier role so I’m thinking 38 weeks.

What are you thinking OP? When are you due?

Scottishgirl85 · 16/01/2023 16:33

39 weeks, but completely depends on how you're feeling. Don't worry about what others do.

Irishgirl55 · 16/01/2023 16:33

With my first I went off at 38 weeks, he arrived 40+6.

This time I haven't decided - either 37/38 weeks - Want to spend some 1-1 with my DS before his world is turned upside down

20viona · 16/01/2023 16:33

36 weeks both times knowing I was being induced at 37 weeks

BabieMama · 16/01/2023 16:39

36 weeks- gave birth at 38 weeks. Regret not going off sooner but only because we were moving/renovating new house at the same time. Moved house and gave birth 8 days later.
FWIW I worked full time 11.5 hour shifts in a call centre.

Overthebow · 16/01/2023 16:42

38 weeks.

PointyMcguire · 16/01/2023 16:48

37wks, ended up going in for induction the following week.

mummymummymummummum · 16/01/2023 16:49

End of the week I was 38/39 weeks. I think it was 38+4 and 39+2

Bee49 · 16/01/2023 16:56

39 weeks. He was born the first day of my maternity leave. I thought I was going to have 3 weeks to relax!

AwkwardPaws27 · 16/01/2023 16:57

Technically 38 weeks, but I had been allowed to carry over some extra annual leave which I used before my mat leave officially started, so I actually went at 36 weeks.
In hindsight I could have WFH for longer but I don't regret it as I was a) knackered and b) got to have a few lovely coffee meet ups before baby arrived (at 40+2) with pregnant/new mum friends.

bravotango · 16/01/2023 16:58

38+4, WFH role. Should have gone 1 week earlier at 37+4 as was exhausted by the time I went on mat leave and he arrived bang on my due date

roarfeckingroarr · 16/01/2023 17:00

First time - 38+5
This time - 37 + 3 but had the Christmas break off too. I wouldn't have lasted so long otherwise.

This is a largely WFH desk job.

positivethoughts1 · 16/01/2023 17:01

So strange! I was going to post the same thing this evening! I'm due Wed 21st June (first baby) and planning starting my maternity leave on Mon 19th (39+5) but taking the week before off as annual leave and finishing on 9th June at 38+2.

Not sure if this is too late but I work from home 8 - 4?

What about you OP??

PizzaPizza56 · 16/01/2023 17:27

I'd say tell work the latest you plan on going off eg 38 weeks and then if find you have health problems you can always bring it forward a bit at the time.

toomuchwin · 16/01/2023 18:03

35 weeks. I was so ready for it by then. I took over a year off so no problem going a little on the earlier side.

Mummyme87 · 16/01/2023 18:07

Depends on your job. First time I went on Mat leave at 36+ weeks and second time went on leave at 35weeks. I’m a midwife, first time was in community so carrying equipment round, climbing up and down stairs, lots of walking. And second time was a labour ward co-ordination. Running up and down the corridors hold my pelvis together 😑

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 16/01/2023 18:08

Worked till 38 weeks and had the baby at 39+5

Username9898 · 16/01/2023 18:32

38 weeks - was booked in for a C-section at 39+2. I’m a teacher but was only doing very small amounts of whole class teaching for the last two weeks. Mostly doing booster groups and admin.

unluckyinlife · 16/01/2023 18:35

My first I was off really early probably 30 weeks as I was so sick and was in and out of hospital.. gave birth at 37plus 5. My second I worked until I was 40 weeks and gave birth at 41 weeks and 1 day.

I will work until 40 weeks unless my health needs otherwise. The extra money and time off with my daughter was so worth it.

DelurkingAJ · 16/01/2023 18:37

DS1, 37 weeks and he didn’t arrive until 42 weeks. I was going up the wall by week 40!

DS2, 38 weeks as was much more tired, he arrived at 41 weeks which worked well.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 16/01/2023 18:57

36 weeks with my first and he was 6 days overdue so it was a long time. This time I will finish at 38 weeks (tomorrow!)

Bunny2006 · 16/01/2023 19:00

I finish tomorrow at just short of 39 weeks, first baby, 9 hour shifts as a receptionist, 40 min walk to work but get transport home!

Heyahun · 16/01/2023 19:03

I worked right up to the end pretty much ! I was working from home though and my workload had wound right down and was doing very little just a bit of a handover and I was mostly working from bed 😂😂

if I go again I’d say I’d need to finish up a little earlier as my toddler is super demanding and I’d probably welcome a few weeks of her being in nursery while I get some rest 😆

Jenn3112 · 16/01/2023 19:04

29 first time, 36 second time. Guess which workplace was more supportive?!?
