Maternity allowance cock up

Bit if a long one, sorry 🙈

I started working at my new job in the middle of July last year after being off sick for 6 months from my previous job as a nurse within the NHS. As a result of the change of job, I am only entitled to maternity allowance and am still waiting for the forms to come through the post.

My manager at my new job ensured me that I would be entitled to SMP so thought no more of this until I received an email from HR on Friday last week stating I am only allowed to claim MA. They have also not sent me an SMP1 form to back this up and pay day was supposed to be Friday this week and can’t pay any of my bills as a result of this.
I’m due to give birth in the next 4 weeks and I’m panicking about our finances as I am the only one in the household bringing in any money.

My partner has only just received his visa after waiting for a decision from the home office for the past 10 months and is applying for every job under the sun and I have done a claim for universal credit but have needed the outcome to be looked at again as they have got me down as still earning over £2000 per month.
im just looking for advice on how to manage until money is sorted out x

When my husband first got his visa he worked at McDonald’s to tide us over until he could find something else. They’re always hiring and it will take the pressure off.

@SharkMum3 have you contacted citizens advice to see if your entitled to any benefits? If the only payment your getting is MA you may be entitled to UC top up.

@PMAmostofthetime

Have you even read the post? She said she's already applied for UC.

I moved jobs during my pregnancy in the summer too. My current employer couldn’t pay stat pay as I wasn’t there for long enough/at the right time (but pay my occupational). My previous employer however are paying it - have you been in touch with your previous employer to see if you’re eligible from them?

SharkMum3 · 17/01/2023 07:51

I have already applied for UC but it is currently going through a mandatory reconsideration as the amount is wrong, I’m hoping to hear back from them today regarding the amount as they’re still taking my wages into account and deducting them from my total 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
