No feral pole at 6+2

Hi, I had a first glimpse/ viability scan today. I’m 6+2 today, booked due to having a miscarriage in Oct and wanted to help ease my anxiety a bit. During my internal ultrasound the technician said she can see a yolk sac but no feral pole. She asked if I had my dates wrong but we’ve been tracking ovulation and my periods are we where ttc. I had a clear blue say 2-3 New Year’s Eve. I’m just not sure what’s going on, am I going to miscarry? I feel as if we’re now in this limbo of not really knowing what’s going to happen.

It's hard to say OP. You could be behind and wrong with the dates or might be a blighted ovum.

When are you repeating the scan?

I was advised to call the early pregnancy unit and see if they will scan me in a weeks time but also said that they might tell me there’s no benefit to it, if they don’t she said I can always book back in privately. Just really confused on what to do, I know I didn’t ovulate late as I used an ovulation test. So confused and scared to hope it’ll work out okay!

Hey, sorry to hear your going through this.
I recently (6 ish weeks ago) went through this exact same thing.
Went for a scan at 6+3 and just a sac not even a yolk or anything, they took some blood to confirm not ectopic but they said probably a blight ovum (I was bleeding too at the time) they said it might be a miscarriage.
I went for a rescan 10 days later and everything was fine and my dates were exact to where I thought.
I have no idea what went on as they did a transvaginal scan too and there was literally nothing in the sac.

Don't lose hope yet. I know it's a long road in limbo and it's so uncertain but things may still turn out absolutely fine for you.

I was told by a midwife and sonographer that this early things are very very hard to see and sometimes they can have a slower start, were not all textbook.

Keep positive and I hope all the best for you xx

I've just had an early (private) scan today at supposedly 7weeks 1 day and could only see a yolk sac. I'm also very sure of dates as we have been trying for a year. My last period was 27 Nov and have very regular periods.

I was very ill over xmas / new year and was admitted to hospital (had to have scans and a procedure with sedation and radiation which they said would increase my chance of miscarriage). I did have a scan as an inpatient when I was supposedly 5 weeks and 3 days, there wasn't a yolk sac so feeling like there has been some progress but it's way behind where I think it should be.

I've booked again privately for 10 days time but this wait is going to be torture.. I'm losing hope as my body has been through so much in the last month.

@Mrwilsonswife are you going to book again?

Hi guys, I have a hospital scan Wednesday at 8.30 so will know what’s happening then. Keeping everything crossed x

@Mrwilsonswife just to update I had another scan today - only 3 days on and an embryo / fetal pole can now be visualised but very small and i'm still VERY behind. I've got another scan in a week as even though there has been progress, things don't look great. Wishing you all the best... there are some positive stories out there, so fingers crossed.

You could be 5 weeks, sperm lives up to 5 days so could have ovulated later

Mrwilsonswife · 19/01/2023 17:25

Praying for you💗 I had another scan also yesterday morning and fetal pole was seen, measuring 5 weeks. Hoping everything’s okay for both of us xx
