Small gestational sac

Hi,

I had an early reassurance scan yesterday at 7+4 and was told the baby is measuring correctly, bang on the right dates. The gestational sac however was measuring at 6+1. It meant there was only 4-5mm between the size of the baby and the size of the sac. The sonographer did advise that this isn’t normal but tried to tell me not to worry. Obviously I did what I shouldn’t have and googled what this means. Everywhere I had read suggests that this will end in miscarriage. I was wondering if anyone had experienced this at all? From my understanding it is quite rare but I’m just looking to hear any stories positive or negative. If this is going wrong I’d like to prepare myself but would also be over the moon to hear any success stories.

Thank you

Was wondering how it's going for you, I am going through something similar. At my scan today, there was a baby with a heartbeat measuring 7w0d at 8w0d but the sac was measuring 5w6d so almost two weeks behind. Was told to go have another scan in 10 days. The wait is dreadful.

During my first pregnancy we had a scan on week 8 and they told us that the embryo was measuring small 6w so that was 2 weeks behind the baby was only 5mm but the sac was measuring 8weeks/
Unfortunately we lost it on week 11 - we went for a scan and baby had no heart beat anymore 🥺😪 I will never forget that day .
I will pray for you all and hopefully is everything alright x remember every pregnancy is different ♥️🙏🤞

@AnnaPr1992 sorry for your loss, I can imagine how hard that is.
We heard the heartbeat today, but that amazing feeling was overshadowed by the really small sac measurments. It's very bizarre being happy and sad at the same time.

AnnaPr1992 · 23/01/2023 17:24

Has been really hard we lost it 3 months ago - end of October and that baby I never met will be always in my heart coz mommy loves him/her 😪

I wish you from the bottom of my heart everything to be okay with you and the baby 🤞🙏
How much was the heart beats of the baby ? If the baby had a fast and strong one then that is promising 🤞

@hanaluna i have no further news at present. My scan was 10 days ago. I contacted the community midwives to ask about it but they said if the baby was measuring on track they wouldn’t have measured the sac anyway so I don’t have anything to go on really. I have booked another private scan tomorrow to see if the sac has grown and to see if baby is ok. I’ll update the thread after the scan. I have everything crossed that it’ll be ok. It’s been a long wait not knowing what to expect. I hope everything works out for you, it’s so stressful!

Good luck on your scan tomorrow, hope it all goes perfect.

RedPandaFluff · 24/01/2023 11:51

Good luck @Char899 Flowers

hanaluna · 30/01/2023 16:24

@Char899 hope it went well

Char899 · 30/01/2023 17:54

Hi @hanaluna hope your ok. My scan went well. Baby was measuring at 9+1 (correct dates) and they didn’t bother to measure the sac. It looked bigger to me and baby was measuring correctly so fingers crossed it’s all ok. I have my 12 week scan in 2 weeks so crossing everything until then.

Ahhhh this is brilliant news! So happy for you!

hanaluna · 31/01/2023 07:15

@Char899 aww amazing. I've read that they don't bother with the sac anymore round week 9/10.
My scan is tomorrow at 9w2d, we'll see how it goes. The wait has been very long.

Char899 · 31/01/2023 13:49

@hanaluna good luck at your scan 🙏🏻 Fingers crossed it goes well for you

@Char899 thank you for asking. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be for us. It's hard but we'll get through it. Knowing that these things are entirely out of our control, brings a lot of comfort.
Scheduled for an MVA tomorrow, as my body hasn't recognised the pregnancy loss, but it's time for us to move on.
There was a 50/50 chance with a small sac, and I'm so glad one of us gets to be on the happy side of those odds.
I truly wish you the best of luck!

Char899 · 03/02/2023 16:04

@hanaluna im so sorry to hear that news, I hope you’re coping ok and I wish you all the best in the future ❤️

I'm having something similar but different at the moment.
I was booked in for a viability scan for next week, but had to move it forward to Wednesday (1st Feb) just gone.
Wish I had kept it for next week. My head is full of questions.
It was a private scan following 4 Miscarriages the last being in December 2022.
The sonographer told me all the way through that everything looked good baby/fetal pole measuring at 6wks (which is pretty much bang on what I thought) so I left feeling really positive.
No cardiac rhythm yet, but she said that it was too early.
Looking at the measurements on the report now, I am so confused, thanks to Google.
GS 19mm at 6 weeks.., CRL 4mm, Yolk sac 6.2mm! Which I know healthy yolk sacs are 3-5mm.. I'm just a bit confused, surely she would have said something rather than how everything was 'really good' I'm going back in 2 weeks. The longest 2 weeks ever.
