Hi all. I am 6 weeks pregnant and starting to feel extremely nauseous. My last pregnancy I ended up so unwell and was still being sick at 18 weeks :(
They gave me Cyclizine last time but it seemed to do fuck all.

I want to start meds early as it was so debilitating last time and I was so poorly. Ended up signed off with hyperemesis gravidarum.
Have other ladies been prescribed anything else for sickness which worked? X

hi there!!!

my first pregnancy I had HG, I was young and not taken seriously at all until I was admitted to hospital, the only thing that helped was ondansetron and cyclizine

my second pregnancy my HG was so much worseeeeee, I was in and out of hospital for IV fluids and IV medication, I was on ondansetron, prochloperazine and cyclizine and that only took the edge off it

I’m now pregnant again and I’m not vomiting very often but I’m so ill with nausea, I’ve lost a lot of weight, 23lb so far, and I’m being classed as HG even though my sickness isn’t actually bad, I’ve been on prochlorperazine from week 5-12, I’m now 13 weeks and on ondansetron again, been on it a couple of days and although the nausea hasn’t vanished it does actually seem to be helping

just remember, if one medication isn’t working you can always be prescribed another one, women with HG often need a mixture of tablets to help their symptoms.

I hope you get what you need and your feeling better soon ♥️♥️

I had metoclopramide which is apparently less effective for lots of people, according to Dr Google anyway. I still had nausea but I threw up a lot less.
If whatever you are given doesn't work for you definitely ask to try something else.

@Mamaoftwooo thank you so so much. It's horrendous isn't it? I couldn't even put my washing on the line without being sick. I was bed bound. Are the meds you mentioned a liquid form? I found with the one I was prescribed before, I would puke the tablet up before it had time to even absorb.
Funny thing is, my first pregnancies, no sickness at all. That was with my ex husband though (though I'm sure this doesn't matter) and I was a lot younger! I really hope your pregnancy is as vomit free as it can be, I had no idea being so sick could be as debilitating as it became xx

@IlIlI yes perhaps horses for courses, what works for one won't for someone else? I found Cyclizine didn't do much though....

No mine were tablet form, unless I’m hospital
i found keeping my tablets regular, having alarms on my phone to make sure I was taking them at the right time and not a minute later helped a lotttt, also I timed them so I took my first dose super early so that I had time to go back to sleep after as if I stayed awake I’d usually vomit 🫣

your right, it is horrendous, and it makes me so jealous about these ladies that have a lovely pregnancy 🫣

I hope you get sorted soon ♥️♥️

My nausea seems to have subsided a little but I've had an early scan confirming a single pregnancy matching my dates with a strong heartbeat. I think it will come back with a vengeance x

Lovely update. Some people do say that it gradually reduces to zero nausea at all, so hopefully that will happen for you too.
Did the GP say they will prescribe anything yet or will they wait since it has subsided a little?

It's horrible just feeling nausea all day, even when you aren't throwing up so much with it, so fingers crossed it is just going to keep getting better now.
