Scan at 5w6days - Gestational Sack & Yolk but no fetal pole

Hi all,

I had my scan today to make sure everything’s in the right place as I’ve had a previous ectopic. They said I’m measuring at just about 6 weeks but they could only see a gestational sack and a yolk sac no baby or heartbeat.

What I wanted to know was is this normal? Or should I prepare for the worst?

I’m back again in two weeks to see if babies there with a heartbeat so fingers crossed! How nerve wrecking this is!

It's normal- I had ivf and they don't early scan until after 7 weeks as that's when they are likely to see a heartbeat.

Totally normal. Exact same happened to me at 5weeks 6days. Baby is here in my arms feeding away happily! ☺️ hope all goes well for you and your pregnancy x

I had the exact same thing at my scan, I was 6w0d and there was no embryo/fetal pole just gestational sac and yolk sac. Went back 10 days later and there was my baby with a nice heartbeat. I’m 9w2d now and had a couple more scans - baby is growing as he/she should and heartbeat is still strong x

@cc99xo thankyou for this reassurance! I went into my scan yesterday thinking I was 6 weeks 1 day but they dated me at 5 weeks 5 days which would make sense as I did ovulate a bit late. Only saw gestational and yolk sac. But you see loads of people on here say they saw a heartbeat at that point which got me really worried! Thanks again and glad is ok for you ❤️
