Hey all,

Im such a worrier is anyone else? I just had a steak for dinner , I even cut it into chunks to make sure it would be properly cooked, it was literally black on the outside and I'm still worrying it wasn't cooked enough!! I'm 26 weeks and all I think about is how I don't want to do anything wrong by him xxx

You need to see your midwife or GP. That level of anxiety isn't healthy for you or the baby.

Oh really? I thought a lot of people would freak out that their food wasn't cooked properly! I've always had a bit of a thing about undercooked food anyway and now it's gotten worse

You’ll be fine. I was like this after eating undercooked lamb from a takeaway. The midwife just said I’d be fine.

Steak is less of an issue compared to an underdone burger. If it looked cooked then it's fine and I wouldn't be worrying

If it's black on the outside it's clearly over cooked - please seek help, it's not good for your baby to be so anxious about a non-event.

@Montague22 thank you!! I'm sure it was Cooked thank you x

What colour was it on the inside? Steak is super easy to tell if it is cooked or not. If it was pink or red it was rare/medium. If it was brown it was well done.

xttcbabyno1x · 12/01/2023 19:49

@Maraudingmarauders I think brown but then I always think I see some pink, my eyes just playing tricks on me I suspect x

Being a bit cautious in pregnancy is completely normal - and anxiety is what has kept humans alive and thriving as a species. But we have to manage it - so IMO you need to either decide to stop eating meat or work out what constitutes 'cooked' and trust it.

I'm 26 weeks and all I think about is how I don't want to do anything wrong by him The way I dealt with this is work out what was good enough and let the rest go. So I didn't smoke, drink, eat the foods the NHS said to avoid, I followed all the NHS advice around a healthy pregnancy. And then I said: that is good enough.

@watchfulwishes thank you so much that was a really helpful response x
