I thought it will useful to start new thread for women who are currently pregnant and in their 40s. Especially those with established families and older children.
I sometimes feel lost in hyper drama conversations of young mums to be lol feel like dinosaur.

A bit about myself, I'm 42 years old, have 10 and 13 year old daughters and currently around 7 weeks pregnant with surprise baby.

I'm suffering from Insomnia every night! It's brutal!

I’m mid 40s with a preschool child and yes, I feel so old when I look at mums around me. But families come in all shapes and sizes, it doesn’t bother me. My older dd loves having her little brother, and although having a young child sometimes limits what we do as a family, it is fully compensated by the joy my little boy brings us all.

Congrats on your pregnancy, hope all goes smoothly.

FYi I was induced but it was very low key - my pregnancy was absolutely straightforward, i felt very relaxed and confident. I saw a consultant once who said I’d be induced as a matter of policy but the hospital actually bumped my induction (ie they forgot to book me in!) so I was a few days late in the end.

With my induction I found it really helpful for my peace of mind, to leave the hospital for a few hours after the midwife started the process - I went to the shops with DH but the midwives said I could go home for 3 hours or so - as it meant I wasn’t bored and anxious in hospital. The midwives were very happy to let me do that as there was nothing else amiss in my pregnancy.

Enjoy this pregnancy and having a little one in your life again- it’s knackering but fun!

Congratulations to all of you, ladies 💐
Especially to you, @littlegingerone as it's your first time, ever 🤗

@Chickadee30 , how far are you gone?
@Happyhappy39soon40 How are you feeling? Good to see you're in SE too, I'm in the borough of Bromley. You?

Wishing you all good luck.

Thank you for sharing your experiences- those of you who already have a toddler in your 40s. I'm scared how we'll manage, I know it'll be tiring but also exciting!

I'm not too well at the moment...got flu 🤧?tested positive with Covid for the 1st time ever on Tuesday). Off work, in bed. Xxx

I am in Sydenham, closer to crystal palace side.

I am doing well. I suffered a miscarriage last week.

Oh no...I'm really sorry to hear it 😒 I remember you'd mentioned about the bleeding but I'd assumed everything was fine as it can be with apotting/bleeding in early pregnancy.
Take care of yourself 💐 🌹

Ps: I know Sydenham.

Hi!!
great to have found this chat!
I’m 8+6 weeks pregnant with my 7th and am 42, 43 next month!
Don’t know anyone in ‘real life’ who is pregnant so looking forward to chatting! 😊

Hi everyone I'm 42 and 7 weeks tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone knows if I'll be allowed a home birth at my age.

There’s no ‘allow.’ Everything is your choice. The HCPs have a duty to inform you of any potential risks but ultimately it’s your choice. Im
planning a home birth too😃

Starjay7 · 19/06/2023 16:40

Hello,
Congratulations to you all! 💐
I'm so happy that found this thread. So nice to see that a lot of you are having babies after big breaks. It makes me feel better 😊
I'm 40 and 3 months ago had my second baby after 17 years gap. I was worried about the big gap but my eldest loves her baby brother. Hopefully they will have a nice relationship in a future.
Pregnancy wasn't easy, had GD but it's so worth it in the end.
What was most annoying and unpleasant that I felt that I had to explain myself to people about my pregnancy. Got lots of comments like 'are you not too old?' or ' are you not worried about your health?'.
Even now I feel judged at times. And it makes question myself did I do the right thing? Do any of you get funny questions etc?

Room4onemore · 12/07/2023 22:16

I get funny looks, not sure if it’s cause I’ve embraced my hair going grey at 40 lol

Sunandstars123 · 31/07/2023 10:41

I had my DD 4 weeks ago and she is adorable. Still question myself how I'm going to make it through till her 11+ when I'm 51 😁

You'll be just fine! I'm 54 with a 12 year old. Also lone parent. We are off to the skatepark this afternoon where I will be fully expected to participate! Congratulations on your new baby Flowers
