Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some reassurance or to hear your stories. I had an ectopic in October and they removed my left tube. I found out I was pregnant again last week but the EPU said I have to wait until I am 6+ weeks for a scan to confirm placement. My appointment is still another week away.
I have been having sharp pain where my left tube was and into my back. Has anyone else had this?
Every twinge and niggle makes me anxious and I am really struggling to focus and try and stay positive.
Otherwise I feel fine. When I had the ectopic in October I was bloated and the pain was more severe that this.
I have been having little sharp pains in my right side too but they only last a few seconds and go with positional changes (or relieving gas).

How are you going? I also had an ectopic in oct . Completely soul destroying 😢

Chantal90 · 14/01/2023 18:05

I had an ectopic in October 2021 with left tube removal and am currently 36 weeks, so I can provide my experience if it is helpful.
firstly congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope all goes well for you.

My experience was that when I found out I was pregnant again I called the EPAU and very firmly requested a scan pre 6 weeks because my rupture happened at 6 weeks 6 days and they accommodated that and I had three scans. One at 4 weeks (which identified a spot in the uterus) one at 5 weeks which showed a fetal pole but no heartbeat in the uterus (very normal at this stage) and then one over 6 weeks which showed the heartbeat. I found this very reassuring and if you had an early rupture I would also encourage pushing for an early scan so you can get an idea of where baby might be even if the heartbeat isn’t identified yet.
I found I had significant pain on my left (ruptured and scarred) side for several months as baby grew and it did worry me but doesn’t seem to have done any harm to me or baby. When the uterus rose up this pain subsided but baby will occasionally kick in that location which can cause pain.

I hope this helps and fingers crossed for your pregnancy. If you have any questions I’m happy to try to answer. I really struggled finding information when I became pregnant again and was anxious. Depending on your location you can get referred to special services which specialise in providing more advice for women who have been through pregnancy loss and traumatic experiences which I would recommend.

Thank you both,
I have been to ED today who referred me to EPU but they couldn’t scan me today. Going in again for a scan tomorrow. My bloods were fine which was reassuring as I had raised Inflammatory markers and CRP last time. The Doctor did an internal and abdomen exam and said he doesn’t think it is an ectopic. However, I have just had a small bleed. Perhaps spotting is the right word if not a tiny bit more. It hasn’t continued but my tummy is really hard and tight.
move just rang EPI for advice and they told me to wait until the morning….
really worried. Did you have any bleeding early on? I’m 5+4 today
thank you

I didn’t have any bleeding, but I also didn’t with my ectopic, so I can’t provide any reassurance on that front I’m afraid.
hopefully the scan will give you the information you need. I found at the five week one they could at least place where the pregnancy was.
Of course if the bleed gets worse/you start getting pain or any other ectopic symptoms get to A&E and insist they get you scanned. Such a stressful time and I hope it’s all okay.
Good luck for your scan tomorrow otherwise!

After my ectopic i realised i had a common sign which was a brown watery discharge. Didnt think anything of it at the time 😞 im sure you will be absolutely fine but i wouldnt let up with scans etc . Wishing you all the best x

xxxlouxxx · 14/01/2023 19:48

Thank you both. It’s nice to have people to talk to about it.
I know it’s common to bleed a little during early pregnancy and it is only a little. It’s my very bloated and tight tummy…
nothing I can do other than wait….

Hi everyone, I hope ye don't mind me joining this thread. I hope that you get good news this week and all is well with the scan. 🙏🙏I'm currently in hospital now after being diagnosed with ectopic at 5 weeks and 5 days and waiting to see what there gonna do. I had no symptoms other than brown watery discharge and a twinge on my right side. Following this post as I am hoping to ttc again soon xx

It looks like I’ve got another ectopic as hcg levels only rising a bit. To be confirmed with a scan on Wednesday… if it is I really hope this time I can have methotrexate instead of surgery.
i got pregnant agin after 2 periods and was so hopeful this time.
you hear of plenty of ladies who go on to have a normal pregnancy though.
hope you’re ok. It’s such a tough and lonely time.

im sorry 😞 its so awful . Keeping my fingers crossed its not. Let us know how you get on

Chantal90 · 16/01/2023 17:04

I'm sorry to hear this @xxxlouxxx - I hope it's not but if it is I hope they have caught it early enough that you won't need surgery.
Wishing you all the best x

SpaceBunInstaHun · 16/01/2023 18:51

I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant after my ectopic last year and not ectopic this time around thankfully, but I've got pains where my tube was removed.
I also had extreme pain when ovulating, so my doc believes it is scar tissue.
Good luck all x

Michael2022 · 17/01/2023 00:04

Im so sorry to hear this @ xxxlouxxx , it being caught early helps a lot and has more options. I will be thinking of you and this tough time. Let us know how it works out for or if you just need hand holding through the days ahead. Xxx

Hi all,

I hope bringing this thread back up isn’t too painful for you @xxxlouxxx please feel free to ignore if it is. How have things worked out for you?

I had an ectopic in late September (4.5 weeks ago) when I was 6 weeks pregnant. It resulted in emergency surgery where they took my left tube. It was our first pregnancy we had been ttc for 6 months.
Recovery has been tough but I’m coming out the other side slowly. Today, 4.5 weeks post surgery, it looks like my period has started.

I am anxious to start ttc again, and wanted to know if anyone started trying after first cycle post surgery?

thanks in advance for anyone who can respond x

Lwrenagain · 22/10/2023 10:31

@JessFar I'm so sorry for your loss. I've also had an EP and lost a tube.
My DD is sat with me now, at 8 weeks old after my first month trying to conceive, I did.
I'm older too and have struggled in the past to get pregnant (years to conceive) so it was a shock but I'm a success story.

Only advice is don't try until you're ready physically to potentially face surgery again, even a c section, or worse, mentally you wouldn't cope with a upsetting outcome.

All the best of luck 💖

JessFar · 22/10/2023 10:37

Thanks so much for you response @Lwrenagain and huge congratulations to you with your DD 💕

That is really good advice and people have said to wait until ready but never in the context that you put it- which is far more helpful.

thank you and all the best x

Keep us updated @JessFar and if you need a chat etc I'm here x

Chantal90 · 22/10/2023 14:25

@JessFar I’m sorry for your loss.
We started trying to conceive 6 months after my rupture. Honestly any sooner and mentally I wouldn’t have been ready.
I found returning to the early pregnancy unit and being in surgery for my c section triggering but because I’d had counselling and worked on what had happened it wasn’t as bad as it could have been and actually the c section surgery sort of over wrote my ectopic surgery (if that makes any sense).
I also spoke to the mental health midwife unit here who were really helpful and followed up with me after baby arrived.

Happy to answer any questions and good luck on this journey. It’s not an easy one but there’s support here if you need it 💐

xxxlouxxx · 22/10/2023 16:33

I think that’s really good advice about being ready for surgery again. I had a second ectopic 3 months after the first which after trying methotrexate I still ended up with a rupture and surgery. I was distraught to say the least. My only option was IVF (again, my DS was IVF who is now 3). I am now 21 weeks pregnant after another successful IVF thank goodness.
I am mentally a strong person but this whole experience nearly broke me…. I would say to anyone to make sure you are prepared for every eventuality.
I wish you all the luck in the world!!
xx

I recently had surgery for an ectopic pregnancy and had my left fallopian tube removed. When I say recently, the surgery was 4 weeks ago. My partner and I were sexually actively again about a week and a half after surgery and we were careful…to begin with. I did pregnancy tests weeks 2 and 3 after the surgery and the lines were getting fainter and barley there by week 3.
Around two weeks post surgery we slept together and we were not so careful, so I did a pregnancy test on Wednesday this week (4weeks post op) and there was a darker line. I repeated the test today (Friday) and it has got even darker and a digital test is saying 2-3weeks pregnant. Is there a chance I am pregnant again, or could it still be my hcg levels being all over the place following the surgery? Has anybody had similar or has anybody got pregnant so soon after an ectopic? The ectopic pregnancy was our third loss and so I’m really hoping I’m pregnant again, but also really worried about it being so soon following surgery (as I don’t want it to cause any complications) and generally anxious as I really want our rainbow baby (if pregnant)!
