Hi all. I am 4 weeks pregnant today, I got my first positive test on 7th January and have been testing every day since and the line is getting darker. I have had very very light implantation bleeding but yesterday and this morning I had tiny clots. Really fearing the worst. I’m due to have a call from midwife today and have already let the drs know so she calls me sooner rather than later. We’ve been ttc for a while so I’m super anxious and paranoid this is going to be bad news before our journey has even begun. Sorry if the pics are TMI. Thanks all x

I'm so sorry! This is the worst feeling in the world, I know what you're going through.

For some people, yes this can mean the worst, I really hope this isn't the case for you. For me personally, I've had everything from brown spotting to bright red blood in early pregnancy and gone onto to have healthy pregnancies.

Because you're so early, you won't be able to see anything with a scan so they might take bloods 48 hours apart to see if your HCG levels are rising, or they might just tell you to wait and see (which is horrible!). They can also check your cervix to see if it's still closed or open, which sadly means miscarriage is likely. Your midwife should advise or an Early pregnancy unit!

Wishing you all the best!! ❤

Hi OP,

So sorry you're going through this! I was in this exact same position last month and unfortunately it wasn't good news for me and bleeding got very very heavy a day later after having a pink tinged wipe the day before.

But as the above poster above said, this isn't the case for everyone. When the above happened to me I had 4 different people tell me that they had light bleeding and went on to have healthy babies! I was just the unlucky one sadly.

Can you call EPU? That's what I did, but by the time they were willing to see me I was already passing heavy clots.

I hope all is ok for youFlowers

Also meant to say, if EPU won't see you, you can go to an urgent care centre who will then refer you to EPU if needed! I found EPU extremely hard to get an appointment as they weren't easy to get an appt with!

Thank you so much for responding. I had a call from the midwife this morning. Told me I need to wait it out at least 2 weeks. I said I was testing every morning and she said it was ‘unnecessary’. Felt really deflated after the call. Not sure whether it is worth the trip to a&e if I get any further bleeding to get bloods done? I may call 111 to get further advice from NHS and go from there x

@Leahoco1 I felt the same after EPU fobbed me off when I had my first bout of bleeding.

Honestly I think do what you need to do, I rushed to A&E when EPU wouldn't see me and got my answer there. Some may say it wasn't A&E appropriate but I had to go somewhere I couldn't sit there and do nothing. They saw me quite quickly, the wait on the wall said 9 hours when I went in and I was in and out within an hour and a half. xx

Mummy2Girls22 · 11/01/2023 11:10

Hi @Leahoco1 I found out I was pregnant then 3 days later what I can only describe as a gush of blood happened I was 4 weeks at this point so nobody would help it was bright red and had a clot bigger then on your pic, the doctor said all I could do was wait 3 weeks and do a test if it's positive I'm pregnant! This was the beginning of November as you can imagine it was the longest wait and then at 7 weeks I had lots of brown blood when I woke up one morning so I had already thought the worst as my 2 previous pregnancys I had no bleeding at all. My midwife appointment at 8 weeks said she didn't think it was the end as the bleeding had stopped and not got worse, then the long wait came for my scan on Monday just gone, to my surprise baby was fine and we had such a shock when they told us I'm 16weeks already 🙈 I had a light period the month before so didn't think anything but turns out that must of been implantation bleed. Bleeding is the scariest thing in pregnant because you always think it's bad news but sometimes that's not the case I have everything crossed for you and I really hope it's the same for you ❤️

timetosave · 11/01/2023 11:34

Hi OP, really sorry for what you're going through, I had a chemical (early loss) last year too, like you I was testing every day, the line got gradually darker over a week as dark as the control line then lighter again until I started bleeding. I know others have different opinions but unless the bleeding gets very heavy (several big clots in a few hours) I wouldn't say it's a matter for A&E. As you're so early there is nothing they'd really be able to do apart from advise you to wait it out & see if your test get lighter. Hopefully that's not the case for you & things keep progressing, but unfortunately the only thing you can do is wait. Wishing you the best.

HeBrokeMyNecklace · 11/01/2023 11:47

I'm sorry you are really anxious at the moment. I was exactly the same. The midwives advised me to go to their ward in hospital to have a scan at 8 weeks due to bleeding, but thankfully they detected a heartbeat and I went on to have a healthy baby. Unfortunately you won't be on the system until you're 7-8 weeks and registered. As much as you are anxious I wouldn't recommend going to A&E over this. They are completely overwhelmed at the moment. My mother struggled to get seen with an aneurysm in A&E last month! Maybe contact your doctor or seek a private clinic if you can afford it?

Sorry for what you're going through OP.

In the nicest way possible, please don't go to A&E for this. EPU wouldn't see you this early. The only thing you can do unfortunately is to wait it out and test again in a week or two

yorkshirepudsx · 11/01/2023 12:05

Hi OP!

I know how anxious you must be feeling and having to wait is horrible!

I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant,
at around 5 weeks I had some light spotting with clots which worried me, but it stopped, then at 6 weeks it started again and got really heavy (like a period), I had a scan and all was ok, they couldn't find a reason as to why I was bleeding (but I have endometriosis and they mentioned this could be causing it) - I continuously bled for over 4 weeks and it was terrifying, I kept having to have scans and Everytime everything was fine! Now I can feel baby kicking away from time to time, but I've still not managed to shake that initial anxiety from the beginning

The only thing I would suggest, would be to try and fill your time with absolutely anything to distract yourself! Binge watch tv, go for walks, etc etc, walking helped me alot just so that I wasn't sat in my own mind ❤️

Sending you lots of hugs and love ❤️xxx

Bumblebee412 · 11/01/2023 12:06

The hospital are unlike to scan you before 6 weeks as it's very hard to see anything. I didn't know this until I had to go in over concerns of an ectopic. They sent me home to come back in 3 days when I would have been 6 weeks.
It could be completely normal for your body and the hardest bit is yes you will need to wait as the midwife said. Unless you get any severe blood loss, one sided pain etc the hospital might be a wasted trip. It might not though so that's up to you what to decide, I would have hoped the midwife would have sent you if she thought it would do anything.
I think the daily testing might cause even more anxiety but it's whatever you need to do to get through the next few weeks mentally. I'm sorry she wasn't more sympathetic or helpful x

yorkshirepudsx · 11/01/2023 12:08

EPU & midwives will likely want you to wait until 6 weeks - this is because on ultrasounds there isn't really anything to see until after 6 weeks, and they wouldn't want to scan you and not see anything as it would only cause more panic for yourself

I wouldn't go to A&E, as they could test your HCG but you would need it testing again 2 days later to see it improve and to know if things are ok, you wouldn't get immediate reassurance from A&E and sitting there waiting could just cause more anxiety

I would call your GP or 111 and just ask them for some advice, tell them it's making you very anxious and hopefully they will book you in for some blood tests xx

Leahoco1 · 11/01/2023 12:12

I’ve spoken with 111 and they transferred me to the local urgent care unit and I’ve also spoken with the early pregnancy unit too. I just need to wait it out and test again in two weeks providing I have no increased bleeding or cramps. If I do then they have advised a trip to a&e is required x

I’m in exactly the same boat as you! No one wants to speak with me as it’s too early and I just need to wait. As I’ve still had a positive tests I booked an early scan to see what is going on, but by that point I’ll be around 5 weeks. I’ve been advised that any bleeding I get, as long g as it’s not loads is completely normal. So I just keep telling myself that until I test again in 2 weeks and have my scan! Xx

RJD23 · 18/01/2023 17:13

**6 weeks

locttc222 · 18/01/2023 20:38

Hi lovely! I hope you’re okay. I’ve had some more significant bleeding since then, no clots but red blood. Still quite not enough to put a pad on but enough to notice if that makes sense. I have a scan with the early pregnancy unit on Friday morning. I literally called them in tears and they were so much more helpful than my GP or 111 and scheduled the scan. Not sure what we’ll see or how much as I will be 5 weeks 2 days but it’s something at least! I keep testing every day lol some may say unnecessary but I need to do it for me! Let me know how your 6 week scan is 🤍🤞🏻

locttc222 · 20/01/2023 16:31

Update for you all - I had my early scan today. I am 5 weeks and 2 days. Gestation sac and yolk sac visible but no fetal pole yet. Think it is just too early! Small bleed located around sac but sonographer advised this can be remnants of hormonal/implantation bleed. I have another scan on 3rd Feb so fingers crossed we have a fetal pole and hopefully a heartbeat too! 🤍🤞🏻

Crossing my fingers for you!! I bled throughout the first trimester, I'm now 20 weeks and they've only just found out why - but baby is well, I hope this helps settle any nerves you have! I was a mess through it all xxx

locttc222 · 20/01/2023 17:22

Thank you so much! I definitely feel like my nerves have been settled, just another wait now which I hope comes around quickly! It’s because it’s all out of my control sets off my anxiety 🫣 ah congratulations! As soon as I see that baby and heartbeat it’ll be worth all the stress and anxiety haha 🥰

thelma57 · 20/01/2023 17:24

@locttc222 I had a bleed early on and it looked almost exactly the same as yours at just over 6 weeks but at that point we could see a heartbeat and all was well! The bleeding carried on very lightly for another week or so after the scan then stopped.

Now 15 weeks 🤞💕

locttc222 · 20/01/2023 17:27

Ahh congratulations lovely 🥰 we just need to wait it out now fingers crossed all okay come 3rd feb! I’ve had no more bleeding since last Saturday 🤞🏻🤍

ATJ · 21/01/2023 22:41

This is exactly what happened to me at 5 weeks and then again at 8 weeks. The bleeding looked the same and got darker like a brown colour. I was so worried but I now have a healthy 8 month of baby Smile and no one really knows why there was bleeding.
I panicked like mad and did the clear blue digital tests every week to make sure it said 2-3 weeks, 3-4 weeks and went up every week. I also paid and went to window to the womb for extra scans as I was so anxious.
