Sorry that this is TMI but I’m really worried.

I’m 21 weeks pregnant with twins and one of them has a low lying placenta. Since I started taking iron tablets due to being anemic I have had awful constipation to the point of really painful straining, I’ve just started laxido to ease it so hopefully that helps.

Will the straining damage the placenta?

Hey OP, I'm 30 weeks, and also have a low lying posterior placenta. I have also been suffering with constipation the past few days and I've been googling like crazy but everything I've read says it won't harm the baby. You could always ring the midwife though to query if you're concerned :) xx

I know , it won’t harm the baby but I have read that if you have LLP you should avoid straining when constipated cause it may cause an hemorrhagic episode…
that’s why i am a bit worried.

when i had the brown spotting, I don’t know what trigger it, but I could attribute it to a squat excercise I did 2 days earlier… luckily it was old blood but it scared me as hell

It won’t damage the placenta but could cause bleeding as well as pikes for you.

I had an awful flare up of Crohn’s disease whilst pregnant and needed to poo 20 plus times a day, sometimes forcefully but all was well. Keep up the pacifier though, it will help

Worth being aware that straining when pregnant or post pregnancy is generally best avoided to protect your pelvic floor. It puts a lot of additional pressure on muscles that are already working extra hard. Hopefully the laxatives help and start working soon for you.
