The pram superstition thing

So the superstition about not keeping the pram in the house until baby arrives.
Bit impractical isn't it?
But my ocd has got worse and superstitions are the perfect thing for the intrusive thoughts to zone in on 🙄

So is it just the actual house? Because I have a very handy outbuilding at the end of the garden.
Would that be OK?

I know I sound stupid, but it's just where my brains at at the moment xx

It’s impractical and will have no bearing on any outcomes at all.
i expect it was from a time when lots of babies didn’t make it and mums didn’t want the upset of the empty pram/cot or whatever in the house after.

We kept kits in the garage and all was well, an outbuilding definitely counts as out of the house. In the house would be fine, but to keep your mind at ease just use the outbuilding

We kept ours*

Hi @Kladebs i totally hear you, i didn't even buy any clothes until the last minute.
We did buy a pram which got delivered to our house but we left it in the box, we didn't open it until bubba arrived x

I wouldn't have a pram , nursery furniture or any other big ticket items in my house until I got to around 35 weeks with all of mine

tealandteal · 09/01/2023 20:23

If you are getting a travel system then the car seat and the pram will arrive at the same time, and you’ll need the car seat. The outbuilding is definitely not in the house.

Definitely check before you store it away... there was actually a minor fault with ours and although customer service was good, it still took a couple of weeks to sort with arranging the return and new bit being sent out. Fortunately I had checked when I received it at 7 months!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 09/01/2023 20:29

Oh don’t start pandering to this ridiculousness, otherwise what will be next? Why make life harder for yourself.

I’ve heard too that it dates from a time when a lot of babies didn’t make it. Thankfully now medical care has improved a great deal and this is relatively unusual.

Back when I was born in the 80s I had friends who were twins. The pregnancy had been difficult and apparently their parents had everything ordered from John Lewis but requested that it wasn’t actually delivered until both had safety arrived. JL were apparently fine with this. Not sure if it would be so easy today?

I’m afraid I was the total opposite and wanted to be as prepared as possible. I slept next to an empty Snuzpod and drove around with an empty car seat in my car for several weeks. I don’t recall giving it any thought. My baby was born in lockdown 1 and there was a time right beforehand when we were genuinely fearful that deliveries would stop and so panic bought a lot of things in a hurry.
