Car Seatbelt

Oh wise MN, please stop me from going down a google rabbit hole 🕳️

Had booking appt with MW today and she kept stressing on about correct placement of seatbelt when in the car as I do a lot of driving which I know has to go between my boobs and then my hips rather than my stomach. I'm 9wks and can't get the belt to sit on my hips rather than my stomach just now. Should I get a besafe pregnancy seatbelt adjuster harness thing to ensure correct placement or wait till I have an actual bump so I can feed the lower part of the belt towards my hips 😩 if I do get the adjuster harness do I need to tell my insurance company as it could be classed as a mod to the car 🚗

Thank you for any insightful responses 💜

I got a adjuster, never even occurred to me to tell my insurance 🤷‍♀️

I have just bought an adjuster at 23weeks now I have a noticeable bump. I didn’t really think about it in the first trimester.

Blue2020 · 09/01/2023 18:45

Is there any guidance online about it?

@Blue2020 thank you. I found it odd she kept saying about the seatbelt position especially as I'm only in 1st trimester. Info I've found online so far is woolly and not conclusive 🤨

@Mommabear20 I popped onto the chat function with my insurance and they said it's not something that I need to declare to them so at least that's something off the thinking list!

My midwife never said a word about it! I'm not so sure that the adjustors are safe?

I'd think surely the baby is small and cushioned inside at 9 weeks that you can wear it how it needs to sit and when your bump is bigger you'll obviously be able to get it on your hips by having it under your hips.

I'm 25 weeks with 4th DC and have never used one. Early days everything is so low down anyway that the belt is unlikely to do damage if it tightens. Once bump gets big enough I just lay the lap part of the belt flat against my thighs and put it on that way. Bump keeps it across thighs and hips then.

At 9 weeks I think baby is still behind your pubic bone so I don't see it being an issue yet!
