Hcg plateau at 6 weeks pregnant

Hi all,

I am hoping for similar experiences and outcomes.

I found out I was pregnant on 28th December. Everyday showed positive tests getting darker.

I had a scan Saturday should have been 5weeks 5 days and they saw nothing. Empty.

hcg taken showed 577.

I’ve just got the next results from today and it’s 528

no bleeding no pain. Back Wednesday for more bloods and scans. Midwife said it doesn’t look good or like a normal pregnancy. Possible ectopic

Anyone had similar? What was the outcome?

I’m sorry this doesn’t sound promising. The levels should double roughly every 48hrs as a rule of thumb.

There is a possibility it could be ectopic or it will end in miscarriage. If they can’t locate the pregnancy they may give you methotrexate which makes your body absorb the pregnancy. Down side of this it ruins your folate levels and you can’t ttc for 3 months (I think I can’t remember it was a while ago)

Diasy31980 · 09/01/2023 16:20

I’m really hoping it’s not ectopic but she said if it was failing she would expect to see a bigger drop.

im 42 and this was unplanned but so perfect so is devastating and the wait even worse

OP posts:
Scared201 · 09/01/2023 19:02

100% OP it’s the not knowing and having to wait. If it is ectopic and they can’t use the medicine / need to operate you can ask to have both tubes removed (if you didn’t want any more children). Just something to mull over while you’re waiting for the results.

It could be a miscarriage but your body hadn’t realised yet. Fingers crossed for the best outcome for you

PeppermintChoc · 09/01/2023 19:05

Sorry OP, won’t be what you want to hear but I had this and it was ectopic, they couldn’t see the baby because they were looking in the wrong place. They monitored my HCG for two weeks and then eventually it ruptured and I had surgery.

Diasy31980 · 09/01/2023 19:20

I really don’t want surgery or to have to take meds. Im just hoping that if they’re not doing what they’re meant to they drop quicker.

we didn’t think we wanted a child as we both have one each from previous marriages but now we know we do.

OP posts:
Diasy31980 · 09/01/2023 19:21

I’m hoping to avoid surgery and try again asap

OP posts:
PeppermintChoc · 09/01/2023 19:29

Hope it doesn’t come to that for you. It wasn’t a choice for me.

Diasy31980 · 09/01/2023 19:34

what did you hcg get to? We’re both devastated, spent the weekend in tears waiting for todays results. I was resigned to the fact they would fallen. Nothing about this pregnancy is going to plan.

OP posts:
Diasy31980 · 10/01/2023 08:18

Had cramps and pink discharge at 3am thought miscarriage was starting, but, now nothing only the odd cramp.

Something that made us so happy is now causing so much prolonged anxiety and distress.

I think about 700? It increased for about 10 days, I was having blood tests every 48 hours. It was increasing enough but it told them I was still pregnant. Usually they don’t rupture until levels are around 2000.

Lillybobs86 · 10/01/2023 10:15

Sorry your going through this.
I was in a similar position in August last year.
They could not find my pregnancy and I was spotting with cramps for a week.
They finally decided surgery and my Ectopic pregnancy was removed from my Fallopian tube.
Wishing you all the luck and keep us updated x

Diasy31980 · 10/01/2023 11:04

Im
so sorry you had to have surgery. Mine are only at 528 decreased from 577 Saturday. I’ve been cramping on and off since 3am but bar a little when I wipe nothing is happening. A little lightheaded but not massively.

midwife called and said the specialist wants to scan me tomorrow when I go for more bloods. I told her what had been happening and she didn’t seem to worried.

. I just want this to pass now and pass naturally so we can try again :( Never knew I wanted another baby until our surprise positive, still can’t really believe it’s not happening

Have you notice the difference in spotting colour?
At the time I didn't notice and think about it but when I look back now - the spotting colour was very different, it was not the same colour as period blood spotting in was a lot darker almost purple with my ectopic towards the end before emergency surgery.
Sorry your going through this it's an awful experience and worrying time I really hope you get some positive news.
I had just turned 36, and I had read a lot of articles through those weeks and unfortunately the risk for Ectopics increases at 35 and older :(

Diasy31980 · 10/01/2023 11:21

It was light pink at 3am the totally stopped and is now brown and stringy but again only one wipe and it’s gone. But the cramps are very very real.

I had my first MC at 34 my son at 35, looking at my cycles I think there was another mc at 41 and now this at 42.

isn’t it awful to think a positive outcome at this stage is a natural MC with out meds or surgery

Oh gosh I'm so sorry you're going through this!! I hope you have definitive news one way or another tomorrow. The wait is excruciating. I'm not sure on bloods as I never had mine taken but I know they don't normally diagnose as miscarriage of one scan as they need to do 2 10 days apart to confirm nothing has grown. Could they see a gestational sac or yolk sac?

I had a scan in July that should've been 7+1 but was measuring 5+3 with an anembryonic pregnancy, also known as a blighted ovum. Sac present but no baby or start of a baby (fetal pole). Even though I was certain of dates, they wouldn't say for definite until I'd had another scan 10 days later to confirm nothing changed.

Although like a PP said a drop in HCG isn't good and it should double, I can't comment on this as I do not know what my levels were.

I'm sorry this isn't much help, keeping everything crossed for you tomorrow OP xxx

positivethoughts1 · 10/01/2023 11:26

I also got to the point where I just wanted my body to complete the MC on its own without any intervention and luckily it did. Xxx

My cramps / bleeding were very sporadic.
It's was one whole evening of cramps / spotting and then nothing at all for 5 days and I thought I had a miscarriage and it was over.
5 days later started again but not bad then a few days later I had surgery.
Keeps us updated 💐

Diasy31980 · 10/01/2023 11:56

Thank you for your support. It’s still super light but bright red now so I think/hope it’s happening nice and naturally :( my first mc spotted for a few hours and then the flood gates opened. But each one is different. All I can hope now is the hcg tomorrow shows a big drop and they say no ectopic or it’s self resolved.

I do want to try again but the fear is real. I never thought I’d be looking at a positive test again but maybe this was a sign to show me I really do want another

Full on miscarriage now. Hopefully scan tomorrow will show tubes are fine and hcg will have significantly dropped

Sorry you're going through this OP, be kind to yourself over the next few weeks. It's a horrible thing to go through. Sending love ❤️

ttcttc · 10/01/2023 17:21

I hope you're okay ❤️

What prompted the early scan?

Well any serious pain etc you should seek medical advise to be safe ?
Sorry to hear this :(
But In the meantime before scan between now and tomorrow maybe seek medical attention if you gets pains to be safe x

Diasy31980 · 11/01/2023 14:20

Just back from hospital. Scan showed my liking has reduced by half, tubes and ovaries look ok. Just got to wait for bloods now but hopefully as long as levels have dropped significantly I can deal with the miscarriage at home now. While I’m so upset it’s a miscarriage i am
so grateful it looks to be happening naturally.

interestingly though. I was diagnosed with pcos 8 years ago and had ovarian drilling. I’ve just doubled checked the letters and medical records and they all
say pcos. But the specialist today said there’s no sign of pcos how is this possible when it’s not curable?

But good you don't have anything complicated like ectopic.

Interesting you say that as I have had the same experience, before I had my daughter I was told I had PCOS (She is 11 now)
However any recent ultrasounds I have had over the last few years show no sign of PCOS 🙃
I do have a slightly different diet to before so I am not sure if that has helped or anything to with having my daughter I am not sure.
But that's a good thing for you anyway :)

Hope all goes ok for you thinking of you 💐

Diasy31980 · 12/01/2023 07:37

Levels 117 now. No further treatment needed test in 2 weeks and then we can try again if we want to. Keep switching between ok and sad. But literally feel life has been on hold the last few weeks so really need to get back on track now.
