Has anyone ever vomited in a public place during pregnancy? I'm 5 1/2 months and got sick in tesco about an hour ago most embarrassing experience of my life, I'm still crying about it, i tried to make it to the toilet but it was the other side of the store I had My hands over My mouth and the sick was coming out from between my fingers and getting all over my coat I had no choice but to drop to my knees and let it out and it just kept coming and coming and also came out through my nose even when there was nothing left I kept heaving and wouldn't stop I never been more embarrassed in my life 💔

Oh love don't be embarrassed, it's just one of those things. Was anyone there to help you?

I watched a woman throw up outside my house once. She saw me liking through the window and looked so embarrassed. I went out and offered her some water. She asked me for some to wash it away and I obliged and told her not to worry.

Try not to let it upset you, it wasn't your fault x

Looking*

RoseslnTheHospital · 07/01/2023 19:03

I did the same in the car park of my work, right outside my boss's office window. He saw me and came out with water to wash it away and water for me. I was mortified, but he was vey kind.

Rainallnight · 07/01/2023 19:04

My DS vomits a lot and I carry around sick bags for him now. Could you do that? You can get them from Amazon.

N27 · 07/01/2023 19:04

Oh bless you! I am suffering with sudden attacks of vertigo and sickness at the minute so I am carrying a Tupperware in my handbag just in case. I’ve had to use it in a car park but not indoors yet.

please don’t feel bad, you can’t help it. I imagine they’ve seen it before and maybe worse.

Yup, on a very busy bus in morning rush hour. Early in pregnancy so wasn’t showing yet which somehow made it worse. No one said anything it was horrible - people just kind of turned away and stared at the floor.
Caught most of it on my handbag. I was mortified. I got off at the next stop and walked the rest of the way carrying my bag of shame. Luckily I had lovely colleagues who calmed me down when I arrived at work!

don’t worry OP - I now look back at it fondly as after having now given birth twice and dealt with numerous public poo/ vomit situations from my kids I’m hardened to it: I’m slightly saddened that if this happened to me now I probably wouldn’t be that bothered anymore: my shame standard has definitely shifted!

lemongirl1985 · 07/01/2023 19:24

In my first pregnancy I was sick everyday for 9 months. We didn't own a car at that time so often had to take a bus to get to the hospital or midwife appointment. The chance I would be sick on the bus was 9/10. I always had a toothbrush and some toothpaste and carried small black bags with me everywhere.
I'm so sorry OP it happened to you but please don't worry and don't cry Flowers

onepieceoflollipop · 07/01/2023 19:32

Oh really feel for you
i carried bags around and thankfully was mainly in the car when I ventured out with dh driving.
maybe carry some bags/ Tupperware round with you I get it’s a pain but if yay have a similar experience at least the panic to try and rush to the loo is minimised. You would just try to find a corner or turn to the side or a wall outside and use the bags x

Spockrates · 07/01/2023 19:59

@onepieceoflollipop so glad im not the only one will definitely carry bags from now on first time I've ever vomited in a public place it happened so suddenly I left my trolly where it was and left the store in shame now I'm afraid to go back incase they check the cctv to see who vomited I can never show my face there again

I've been sick in a&e carpark and Tesco car park. It's not your fault and you tried to stop it! Don't be embarrassed likely a bunch of people you will never see again Flowers

RoseslnTheHospital · 07/01/2023 20:00

They won't remember you or care. I bet they have a lot worse to clear up or deal with. They won't check the CCTV.

pinkpotatoez · 07/01/2023 20:00

During pregnancy ^

heartbroken22 · 07/01/2023 20:04

It's okay I've been there. I've got hyperemesis so it's the norm for me 😂 first pregnancy 5am on the bus stop threw up everywhere and just walked away. 3rd pregnancy I managed to run out of Asda with my dd in her pram and vomited in a bag in the car I'm sure people were looking at me thinking wth exorcist but I can't help it and neither can you.

What happened to you happened to me when I was 16 at a major international airport and I vomited in my hands whilst arriving and all the departing passengers made sure they watched me through the window 😂 it was humiliating, embarrassing and I didn't know whether I should clean it or not. It was seeping through my fingers 🤮

Also this pregnancy vomited in my car whilst driving and kept it in my mouth for 5 minutes till I reached home and could open the door to spit it out. Learnt the hard way to keep a bag in my pocket or do a runner when I feel it starting to come up. Don't feel embarrassed it happens.

Picklypickles · 07/01/2023 20:05

Surprisingly I didn't vomit in public during my pregnancies, although did have to stop the car and get out to puke a few times.

I did once vomit in public walking around Cologne in Germany with a large group of English and German students when I was 17, I had a horrible ear infection and I had been given huge antibiotics at a German GP surgery that must have upset my tummy! It was very embarassing and I had to go back to the youth hostel and spend another 2 weeks with those people!

NewBabyGirl2020 · 07/01/2023 20:07

Yes I constantly was everywhere I went. Couldn’t leave the house otherwise. It’s awful and so sorry you are experiencing this. I lost all shame of getting sick in public after a while and just kept my head down and walked away

elevenplusdilemma · 07/01/2023 20:07

Oh gosh yes, frequently when I was pregnant with DC1. Carry a good quality carrier bag with you at all times (cheap ones have holes in the bottom!) and some wipes and mints for freshening up afterwards.

Yetanothernamechange123 · 07/01/2023 20:09

Would it be an idea to phone to explain and apologise? I'm sure they would understand, but it would be a polite thing to do

onepieceoflollipop · 07/01/2023 20:11

@Spockrates
in addition to the vomiting I also fainted once at the checkout
the first aid chap was nice thankfully

6 months later I had a massive healthy dd

heartbroken22 · 07/01/2023 20:18

@Yetanothernamechange123 honestly there's no need. What ridiculous advice.

stillsleeptraining · 07/01/2023 20:23

Poor you - especially getting it all over your coat! Hope you got home ok.

To answer the question - god, yes. So many places. I had hyperemisis and spent my whole pregnancy puking. So if I was out of the house, it was going to happen. I literally walked around retching at one point (nothing coming up) because if I stopped then I would have never gotten home. Upset a lot of people!

It was pretty horrific and agree on the bags, but people were so sympathetic x

LaForza101 · 07/01/2023 20:28

I had similar. I managed to only vomit in loos during my first trimester and then I thought my sickness had settled. I had a horrible surprise in late second trimester on a bus and ended up vomiting into my handbag. I just had time to take my phone, purse and keys out, the rest was a write off.

No one made eye contact and I binned my bag as soon as I got off the bus. As horrible as it was, it felt a bit like a right of passage to have a dramatic pregnancy sickness story. Please don't give it a second thought OP

emptythelitterbox · 07/01/2023 20:41

I get low blood pressure and pass out and vomit. Embarrassing.
Once in a chemist, once on an airplane, once in an uber.

So try not to feel too badly. It happens.Flowers

sunflowerandivy · 07/01/2023 20:45

I suffered with Hyperemesis and I vomited everywhere. Loads of public places. Constantly. I carried an old celebrations tin or tupaware with me. No one will care and everyone will forget

Caterpillar1990 · 07/01/2023 20:45

Oh god that’s so embarrassing, poor you! Have you thought about carrying sick bags?
