Has anyone ever vomited in a public place during pregnancy? I'm 5 1/2 months and got sick in tesco about an hour ago most embarrassing experience of my life, I'm still crying about it, i tried to make it to the toilet but it was the other side of the store I had My hands over My mouth and the sick was coming out from between my fingers and getting all over my coat I had no choice but to drop to my knees and let it out and it just kept coming and coming and also came out through my nose even when there was nothing left I kept heaving and wouldn't stop I never been more embarrassed in my life 💔

I chucked up right next to a church on a busy main road this time around! Don't think the lord will have approved of that one 😂

ChangeHtotheP · 07/01/2023 20:54

Don’t be embarrassed about it. I have HG and have now accepted the fact that I can be sick anywhere with no notice. If I’m having a bad day with sickness and I have a hospital appt I take a little bucket. If it’s a normal day I have doggy poo bags in my pocket. There isn’t anywhere I’ve not been sick, neighbours gardens, car parks, train stations, retched in peoples faces. I’m past caring now. 😂

themosttiptoptopcat · 07/01/2023 21:13

I vomited in a public bin once 🙈 A very kind taxi driver came over and gave me some tissues and an unopened bottle of water.
Don’t spare another thought, these things happen!

Maverickess · 07/01/2023 21:24

Aw bless you, been 20 years but I still remember it well.
I took carrier bags and tissues everywhere with me, and I usually got a seat to myself on the bus!

People were usually really kind and I got given water, tissues, mints and sympathy most times.
One memorable time I got out my trusty bag and I hadn't checked it for holes...... It had one and it didn't end well! I had dashed out of a shop and sat on a wall, a really kind couple coming out of the shop opened a pack of toilet rolls and gave me one to clean myself up and told me it'd be worth it in the end!

DewinDwl · 07/01/2023 21:27

I had hyperemesis so vomited pretty much everywhere. I ended up taking food bags with me, but would also throw up in open bins etc. At the beginning I used to worry a out what people would think as this condition is so misunderstood. As the pregnancy advanced I was feeling so ill that I stopped caring TBH - a 41 week pregnancy where sickness started in week 5 and altogether I had 2 vomit-free days.

MarmiteCoriander · 07/01/2023 21:32

I had to run off the tube once and vomit into a bin on the platform- Infront of the entire carriage I'd got off and other commuters.

I always carried a packet of tissues, bottle of water and those vomit bags with a plastic neck going forward just incase.

@onepieceoflollipop so glad im not the only one will definitely carry bags from now on first time I've ever vomited in a public place it happened so suddenly I left my trolly where it was and left the store in shame now I'm afraid to go back incase they check the cctv to see who vomited I can never show my face there again

Surely you told a staff member that you’d been sick though? You didn’t just leave?

They will 100% have had people vomit in there before. I know it’s horrrible for you but I honestly wouldn’t worry.

WhiteJeans07 · 07/01/2023 21:36

Many, many times in my last pregnancy but the highlight was throwing up in the kitchen sink at work, at my relatively new job, so weak that my boss had to hold me up on my feet.

I felt so ill and humiliated I cried my eyes out until they found a wheelchair and wheeled me past all my colleagues to who were trying to look away to the waiting taxi that drove me the 30 miles home. I never went back!

That would have been entirely reasonable!

I once had to get off a streetcar to throw up... had to just go to the side of the road as didn't have time to do anything else... didn't realise I was next to a postbox and someone came out of an apartment, walked over to me... and posted a letter right over my head while I was vomiting Envy

Marylou62 · 07/01/2023 21:41

Oh love.. don't be embarrassed... I'd have helped you if I'd been there..
I was on a bus with a 2yr old, pregnant with no2, I just knew that I was going to be sick.. so I got off in the pouring rain with buggy and bags holding my DS's hand and was violently sick in full view of all the passengers..(many who knew me as we all lived in the same village)..no one got off to help.. an upset woman vomitting, trying to detain a struggling upset 2 yr old, in the pouring rain.. I'll never forget that...
But like a lot of things it a distant memory now..
And it's worth it in the end!
Good luck..x

twinmumtobe23 · 07/01/2023 21:42

I always have a carrier bag in my pocket everywhere I go. Even if I'm not particularly feeling too bad on that day, just makes me feel better having it.

That must have been so hard for you but you mustn't ever feel embarrassed, your body is doing a wonderful thing and you'll laugh about this with your child one day x

timetorefresh · 07/01/2023 21:43

I had hyperemesis. Threw up in so many places. I had a pocket full of Tesco freezer bags and kitchen roll everywhere I went. Hope the sickness doesn't last too long for you

Xxsun · 07/01/2023 21:49

7 years ago now, I just drank a whole bottle of water the big flavour volvic one (plain water made me heave in pregnancy) for my 20 week scan and i could smell cigarette smoke and it all came out absolutely everywhere! projectile vomit it was insane!!
2 years ago I left a mcdonalds bag with the wrapper in it over night in my car got in my car the next day it just smelt of grease and could not stop heaving for about 5 minutes my neighbours were watching

Queenmargery · 07/01/2023 21:54

I had hyperemesis and vomited in public quite a bit, not in shops though as far as I can recall. I was hospitalised with it and they gave me some of the hospital sick bags to take away with me so that was handy.

mondaytosunday · 07/01/2023 21:57

Not while pregnant but got very sick in an outside cafe - I was with a male friend of my husband's and my baby. I felt ill, said 'can you hold the baby' hoping to get to the toilet, but threw up a second later. The waitress was totally unfazed and just mopped it up. I was mortified. It happens.

What did you want people to do? Get off and get splashed with vom? Also maybe they didn't have any water or tissues?

Teresa777 · 07/01/2023 22:15

Yes, with my second baby I had a similar episode right in the middle of a very busy Woolies. I felt it come on and what I should have done was run out the shop to puke in the street, but no (I'll never understand why I did this this) I thought an actual bloody shelf full towels at the back would be the discreet and sensible option. Similar to you it was like a never-ending projectile avalanche (like that meme you always see on social media). I ruined so much of their stock! Loads of customers just walked past and ignored me, but the staff were so, so lovely and got me a cup of tea!

Stevie6 · 07/01/2023 22:20

@dampthursday that was my thought too, being sick isn't an issue, it happens, but to not tell anyone and leave it on the floor?

Oh come on, give her a break! She had a pretty unpleasant experience, and was clearly upset and not thinking straight.

Spockrates · 07/01/2023 22:34

@dampthursday no I didn't tell anyone tbh I didn't have the courage to lots of people saw so I'm sure someone must be told staff I was covered in vomit on my coat and in my hair and all over my hands I didn't even have any tissues on me I was so embarrassed, all eyes were on me I have social anxiety so I just had to get out of there I know its wrong but I just didn't have the courage to face a staff member and tell them I had vomited while covered in vomit myself

Airline sick bags from eBay.
Carry them with you.
They dont leak.
Then you bin the bag.

You will improve your vomiting technique I'm sure

Spockrates · 07/01/2023 22:46

@SleekMamma once I hit 4 1/2 months I stopped vomiting through the day and would only vomit in the mornings and it has been that way ever since so I wasn't expecting to be sick at all as I'd already vomited this morning, If I'd of known I definitely wouldve gotten sick bags, but from now on I will take bags everywhere

Ah, the days of never leaving the house without a portable vom receptacle. You’re not alone, sista. I used all sorts. Such a magical time.

Someone could tread on it or slip in it. An employee will have to clean it up, the least you can do is let someone know. I understand OP is distressed but its not exactly great to just leave a load of vomit in a supermarket aisle
