Thought we could keep each other company if so. My scan is in 10 days, I’m quite nervous!

Didn’t want to read and run op, how far along are you?

mine didn’t move and it did end up as a huge thing but have a very healthy baby now so it did come good despite being in the tiny minority who are affected by it!

good luck for your scan!!!!!!

Hello from 8 years on from where you are, didn't want you to get no response. I had placenta previa with second. Ended up with an early c section. Can tell you it was quite calm compared to dc1 natural birth. They just kept a closer eye on me. Had a few minor bleeds and more monitoring.

Cuppasoupmonster · 06/01/2023 20:22

Thanks ladies. It was anterior and covering the cervix at 20 weeks, I’m now 27. Were either of yours anterior? Did it complicate the c section?

Mine was both posterior and anterior at 20 weeks but posterior by 27 weeks. They were very worried it would grow into my previous section scar but luckily it didn’t.

the previa I had meant I was hooked up to the blood recycling machine and had tailored pints on standby but actually barely bled at all and the placenta delivered itself with the injection. Was in good nick despite bleeds.

very likely it will move though OP! It’s something like 90% move. Mine moved in my first pregnancy but not in the second.

Malariahilaria · 06/01/2023 21:18

It was partially covering the cervix. I won't alarm you hopefully but very experienced surgeon and dc2 was whipped out super fast and all healthy. Had a few complications so did need a transfusion of blood and one of iron but the team were "on" me the whole time so it wasn't super stressful. Admittedly I was on morphine so I thought everything was wonderful Grin.

Cuppasoupmonster · 06/01/2023 21:33

Oooh. I’ve heard anterior is better for the chance of it moving but less good if it doesn’t as they have to cut through it during the c section 😬 good to know it went well for you both though.

Yes me @Cuppasoupmonster I am 23 weeks and it hadn't moved on Wednesday! It's Anterior and low but not covering cervix. So they at rescanning at 28 weeks. This happened with my last pregnancy and by the 28 week scan it had moved and all was good 😊

Bananabreakfast123 · 07/01/2023 20:05

I'm also waiting. It was low lying (about 1.8cm away from the cervix) at 20 weeks so going back at 32 weeks for another scan. I was really worried at first (Google is not my friend) but having spoken to the midwife, she was very calm and reassuring about it with about 90% moving as required. Trying to think positive that the 32 week scan is an extra chance to see baby and even if the placenta doesn't move by then, baby and I will be monitored closely and looked after.

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/01/2023 20:06

If it’s not covering cervix and anterior you basically have a 100% chance of it moving. If posterior it’s more like 98%. So odds very much in your favour!

For anyone reading this in future - it moved! Just found out at my 28 week scan. All clear and fine for induction.

Ah amazing @Cuppasoupmonster good luck for the rest of your pregnancy x

Fawn68 · 22/01/2023 17:26

An update from me also! I had a scan now 25+6 and it has moved up and will cause no issues.

LittleChicken11 · 29/01/2023 09:38

I’m still waiting! Scan at 28 weeks (28+4) it still haven’t moved. Would it have moved by now if it was going to, or is there still time? It’s anterior too.

Cuppasoupmonster · 29/01/2023 09:45

Great news Fawn!

@LittleChicken11 i think I read a third of placentas resolve by delivery if still previa at 28 weeks:

Fingers crossed for you, the wait is stressful.

I needed this thread! I’m glad yours has moved up.

im currently 26 weeks and it’s anterior and low. I’m due to be re-scanned at 32 weeks (which seems ages compared to your re-scans!?)

im hoping it moves up as my last birth was an EMCS and I really wanted to try for a VBAC this time 😔

Fawn68 · 01/02/2023 09:22

@Leostratts My last scan was private so that's how I found out, but my scan to recheck is this Monday at the hospital and I'll be 28 weeks. They told me they would rescan again at 32 weeks if it's not moved. Hopefully the private scan got it right but they measured that day and was above 5cm. You still have quite a few weeks to allow it to shift up. Fingers crossed x

LittleChicken11 · 01/02/2023 18:57

Thanks @Cuppasoupmonster thats really useful.

My 32week scan has been moved to 33week so I think I’ll book in a private scan at 31 weeks to check it, as I’m supposed to be flying (1hr domestic flight) at 32 weeks. If it hasn’t moved I don’t think I will risk travelling. Has anyone else been told not to do anything? I haven’t personally been told anything (consultant and midwife both v relaxed that it is fine and will move) but have read it’s better to not fly, bath or DTD. Is anyone else taking these precautions?

Hope yours also moves @Leostratts!
@Fawn68 5cm is quite the move! How close was it at 20weeks? Mine was 1.7cm I think.

Bananabreakfast123 · 03/03/2023 20:10

Had my 32 week scan today. Placenta has moved but apparently still considered low so need a consultant appointment to confirm all ok. Sonographer was happy though so not too worried with 8 weeks and more growth still to happen. Just need to wait and see.

LittleChicken11 · 05/03/2023 19:31

I had my 32 week (at 33 weeks) and placenta has moved! Hope yours moves soon too @Bananabreakfast123

rach971 · 05/03/2023 21:49

Just been reading through this thread as I'm 19 weeks with an anterior placenta. How do they decide if you get a scan further along? Is it if it's sitting low anterior then they want to do follow up scans? I know mine is anterior but I'm not sure where. Although I'm pretty certain it's low-ish but got my 20w scan on Thursday so I guess I'll find out

Fawn68 · 05/03/2023 23:35

@rach971 you will find out at your 20 week scan if it's low! If so then they will rescan at 32 weeks. Anterior is very common! I've had anterior with all 3 kids, 2 of which were low but placenta moved up by the rescan.
