Are all hospitals like this?

The hospital (where I will give birth)has a narrow enterance/exit to the maternity ward is where they have placed the cigarette stub bin, resulting in patients/visitors stand/sit around smoking here.

Fine if they want to smoke, but for me to hold my breath as I go through their smoke clouds and for when baby is born his/her first breath of 'fresh' air will include their smoke is not exactly an ideal situation, especially of all places - a hospital.

It is the same (but not as bad as there is more space) at the local out patients hospital.

What about your hospital?

same at mine. There is a low wall just outside the entrance and that is were pregnant mums, dads to be and other visitors all sit to have their smokes.
Another reason to add to my every increasing list of 'reasons to have a home birth' to show to DH.

one here has smoking section in the courtyeard area so u dont have to walk thro there at all. but people do smoke outside the main entrance as well.

where i had dd2 the hospital smoking areas were outside the doors. so yeah you got a blast of smoke where you stepped outside.

My hospital was a maternity one and there were always heavily pregnant women pacing around outside smoking. But it was a pretty wide entrance and then the traffic from the road would probably have been worse.

Our local hospital still has a smoking room, but it is situated right by the SCBU and they have to put signs up telling people in the smoke room to keep the door shut.

AFAIK they are getting rid of it.

Yes they all stand around by the visitors entrance, so not near the birthing rooms or wards, but still not the pleasant...
