I had this (measuring big for dates) i was sent for a growth scan and it was just that i had extra fluid and a large baby. They did predict correctly too, as waters went with a huge gush (i had a section) and ds weighed in at 9lb 6oz at 38 weeks.

Nothing to worry about though.

she may have measured wrong, your dates may be wrong, your baby may be big or lots of fluid...... lots of possibilities, thats why you have the scan, it is more accurate than tummy prodding (well mostly) dont panic it isnt that big a concern at this point and you get to see baby again!

I think the measuring your bump thing is pretty inaccurate anyway, a lot of midwives don't do it any more. I measured 3cm less than I should but ds still came out bang on the 50th centile.

I spent week 20 - 30 being told he was too big.

Then week 34 - 39 being told he was too small.

Countless growth scans, lots of worry, too many appointments.

DS popped out at 7pound 7 oz bang on 50th percentile for length and head circumference!

Who knows. Babies dont grow in a straight line - they have growth spurts. Perhaps this week bump is in a different position or having a growth spurt. If it was an emergency you would have had a scan immediately.

I know its easy to say try not to worry but thats the one thing I learnt from last time - they like to mess with your mind!

hi i measured 3-4cm bigger every appointment and i had excess water. it isnt a problem and is easily diagnosed. they will however want you to stay in hospital from the start of your labour if it is this prob as they need to monitor the baby more regularly. you are lucky to be given a scan as soon as the problem was noticed i didnt get one until i was 41weeks due to the midwifes insistance that i was just having a 'big baby'!! hope all goes well
