So my partners brother will be godfather but I've only got one sister who is already godmother to my first son. Would it be acceptable to ask my brother in laws partner to be god mother so it's a couple who are god parents?

Yeah that's absolutely fine if you'd be happy to trust her even if they separate.

I don't see why people choose different godparents for each child, unless the first one is bad at it, though.

Yes. A child can have as few or as many godparents as you like. It's an honorary position, doesn't really mean much tbh.

My sister has my son and two other god children so I said I would pick someone different this time since she already has a few.

Ask whoever you want. Doesn’t matter what the relationship to you is it’s about who is best to guide them.

Yes. Choose whoever.

We avoided choosing a couple to be godparents to the same child, but only because that would mean that if we lost touch with them, the child would lose touch with both godparents.
But as these are family, that's not going to be an issue.

It means a lot if you're religious - a god parent is supposed to ensure that the child has, and help to give the child a good religious upbringing, and to be a good role model.

And if you're not religious, why would you give your child god parents?
