Is it a change of movement routine?

Hello,

I’m 28 weeks pregnant and for the past however many weeks I’ve woken up at 4/5am for no apparent reason and put it down to maybe the baby kicking waking me up.

The last 2 days I’ve not woken up til 8am and as nice as it is to have more sleep, I can’t help but me paranoid that it’s because the baby isn’t kicking at 4am anymore and therefore a change in usual routine.

Am I being silly/overly anxious? I called my day unit which wasn’t overly useful and felt dismissed. Was told that as long as daytime movement seems the same (which I’m not 100% as I don’t keep a note), not to be worried.

What should I do??

Thanks so much.

If you're worried go in. They would rather see you 100 times and all be fine than the 1 time it's not...

Midwife told me to say whatever I needed to to get them to see me which sounds awful (I don't condone this just thought it was worth mentioning that community midwives know it's hard to get seen at hospital at times) all you need to say if you're concerned about movements which you are.

I'm sure it's fine but it's never worth the risk

@Bumblebee412 thank you. I thought I’d done enough by saying I was concerned the movements had reduced- do I need to explicitly ask for a scan? Not sure how else to get one! 😖

You won't get a scan for x1 episode reduced movements. They will do a CTG though.

I agree with previous poster. If it's really worrying you it's always worth checking so you can put your mind at ease.

I remember not feeling my little one not move for a little while and it was my first so wasn't really to sure on this whole usual movements thing especially when your busy throughout the day sometimes they could be moving but your obv not paying full attention. Never the less I couldn't stop worrying gave them a call went in and sure enough soon as I got them to monitor he didn't stop moving lol. Xx

I would say you haven't felt the baby at all in the last hour. That you've tried eating drinking etc and it's not normal for baby. They should listen to babies heart on a doppler. Some hospitals used ctg mine wouldn't until after 30 weeks. You won't get a scan unless you pay privately and they won't be able to tell you anything that could be an issue as most aren't allowed to use it for diagnostic purposes you would still need to be referred. You should be seeing the midwife soon shouldn't you?

@FT123456 thank you- I’m hoping I’m overly worrying for no reason as I’m naturally an anxious person at the best of times. 🥲 I thought I’d said enough to get seen but apparently not!

@Bumblebee412 thank you. I have felt her every so often as I hate the thought of lying in case of bad karma… I had my 28 week appointment a few days ago. A private scan picked up I had excess fluid (still waiting for a scan on the NHS) and at the 28 week appointment my midwife couldn’t decide whether growth had dipped or whether it was following the curve… (attached pic!)

All of these worries have made me severely anxious! Trying to take reassurance that they clearly don’t see anything as needing urgent attention ?!! 🥲

Keep and eye on it and if its not normal then ring. I guess excess fluid could play a part in the movements but no one will be able to guarantee that's the only reason so don't rely on that. I had a hellish time from 26 weeks with excess growth then reduced growth then high blood pressure etc etc so I feel you. It will be all worth it x,
