Hi All

I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year.

Just after a bit of advice really and seeing what you would do. I’ve had an awful flu virus since 23rd - had about 3 days of feeling better but as of yesterday morning I feel the worst I’ve felt. Shivery, whole body especially joints hurt so much, but with the coughing I can’t keep anything down. I’m 8 + 5 pregnant.

Finally had a call back from 111 who advised cough syrup to try and stop the coughing and therefore sickness (but no pharmacies open) and to call my mat unit (cannot get through, says to call A&E).

They said if I worsened to go to A&E as I may need rehydration. What would you do? I honestly feel like my head is going to explode, I don’t think I have ever felt so unwell. However also concerned if I have something contagious and spreading that round the hospital, or how long I should wait before going. I can’t stop crying I feel so so poorly. I’m so worried about the baby with me being unable to keep fluids down.

Have you called your out of hours gp service? Given your advanced state of pregnancy, I would think you are an urgent case. Also, have you had your blood pressure checked?
If all else fails then A&E but I can't see that being a nice place for you to be in your current state.
You need to get your blood pressure checked as a matter of priority though, so don't feel like your wasting anyone's time.
All the best,

I second GP out of hours - I was really ill starting Boxing Day with pregnancy nausea/vomiting, couldn’t keep anything down etc (10weeks pregnant) and when I did go to the doctor on 28th, he said I should have called out of hours and it would have been more serious than 90% of the calls they did get.
Try tiny sips of water in the meantime - I didn’t get or keep much down at all and was showing signs of dehydration when they tested but it was still early enough, so every little really does help.
Hope you get the help you need and feel better soon - don’t worry too much about baby, they’re such hardy little beings even at such an early stage, they’ll take everything they need before your body takes it for itself xx
