Raised ALT but bile acids normal

Hi, I wonder if anyone else has experienced this, I am 34 weeks pregnant and started itching at 33 weeks. I was given a blood test which indicated raised ALT levels so they repeated it 6 days later which is still showing raised ALT but my bile acids were completely normal in both blood tests.

The midwife seemed sure that my bile acids would rise which would indicate obstetric cholestasis but that hasn’t happened. Iv been booked in for another blood test and to see a doctor but Im just so worried (just to mention also I suffer from sever health anxiety).

I am now concerned it could be something other than OC as it’s only my liver function that is raised and not my bile acids, but they still want to see so quickly to test for other things. the thing that worries me is what the ‘other things’ could be.

Hiya, I’m the person who wrote this post originally just had to use a different username. Everything ended up being fine, my bile acids and ALT continued to fluctuate between normal and raised until I was induced at 40+2 because they just wanted to be on the safe side. And I now have a perfectly healthy little boy and I’m unaffected. I suffered with quite bad itching which continued through labour and a day after but I think that was caused by the epidural more than anything. I have since had my levels checked 4 months postpartum and they are all normal. I had such bad anxiety because no one could understand why the levels we’re constantly going up and down and I had no answers but I did find some reassurance from the GP when I spoke to them a few weeks before birth who wasn’t concerned in the slightest and booked me in to have my levels checked after birth. (Sorry for the word vomit I just wish I had someone who had experienced the same problem when I was going through it). I hope all goes well for you!
