Femur measurements at scans

This is a long shot but wanted to see if anyone has had anything similar come up during their pregnancy and what the outcome was...

At a growth scan around 26wk they noticed femurs measuring short, after a lot follow up appointments and scans we now know that baby has one femur measuring around 7mm shorter than the other, and it has a slight curve to the bone. The other femur measures perfectly normal
No other abnormalities at all everything else looks fine.

We're really struggling to get a straight answer on what this is or what impact it will have on the baby.
Desperate to hear if anyone has experienced this as its so hard to find any accurate information online and it's been 6 weeks of waiting for answers so far from professionals. 😭 it's driving me insane.

Thank you

I have not got direct experience of what you are going through but didn't want to read and run.

Our baby had small femurs (6th percentile) and therefore had follow-up scans with consultant. They checked for any other potential markets for either ds or chromosomal abnormalities but couldn't find any. The consultant concluded that most likely to just be small femurs but highlighted potential risks etc. we were offered a second opinion if we wanted and the possibility of more invasive testing. We were satisfied with everything the consultant told us and understand scans cannot necessarily pick up everything and have had regular growth scans since to check all is well.

Hope you get some answers you need soon x

hey @Babyisi

my daughter was born in February and is four months old now. Honestly it was so much worry over nothing.
What is it you’ve been told? Is it from pregnancy scans ?

my daughter has a curve in one femur which made one leg ever so slightly shorter then the other, if you didn’t know you’d never notice it. It’s not caused any issues she’s healthy and happy 😃

Oh im So happy for you and your LO. Such good news :) hope you are enjoying the journey so far 🌼💙 yes ive been measuring low since week 29 & 31 around 5% in femur lemgth. All rest metrics are around average 50%ish. My DS scan/ultrasound on the 12w had very good results (1/20000 for trisomy 21/18/13 + great papp a scores). But as mentioned, During 31w doppler with embryologist everything again was good, apart from femur measuring 5%. My gynecologist suggested NIPT just for protocol and to be on the safe side - she believes its a small baby and i will need to be tracked. She also joked about me and DH being skinny and not-so-tall (5'5 & 5'7) . But i ofcourse i went on "dr. Google" and since then been spiraling and feeling overwhelmed 🥹🙏🏻 wish i could enjoy my rest of pregnancy (dd 8/8)
