Shared Parental Leave - Teachers!

Hi everyone,

Baby is due mid-April, so I'm starting to really think about the finances, as I'm the main wage earner for our household. I know how most of it works, but I was just wondering if any teachers know how Shared Parental Leave is funded?

I mean, obviously I go on mat leave and it's paid, I assume, by the council who normally pay my salary. But if I asked to "work" throughout the summer holidays using SPL, would it come out of the school's budget? I'll ask the person who srts it all up, but won't see them until next week and so wanted to get a bit of a head start on the thought process.

Thanks :)

So you would be off April -July, then your partner from July? They would be paid by their own employer while they were on ShPL.

Schools in my experience don't let you go back to "work" in summer hols to get paid, to switch back onto leave when term starts.

My friend had mat leave till 3 days before summer hols, switched to her DP being off, so she got paid in summer hols and he stayed off afterwards and she went back to school in sept.

I agree with this, well worth paying her to do the forms too if you can afford it! (I'm not her haha)
