Bleeding

Around 6 weeks pregnant. Had very light spotting for days and then last night had sudden horrible strong period type pains, was mainly on my right side and in my back and thighs, bleeding started as soon as the cramps started and was like id just come on my period, not heavy but also enough to make me think it must be a miscarriage, i was upset and went to sleep. Woke up this morning had a bit more bleeding. There has been no clots so i know the pregnancy hasn't passed but for the remainder of today I've had no pain and only very light spotting. I've rang the EPU who have told me they couldn't see me from a self referral and would need to speak to my doctors or midwife. Ive tried to call my doctors all day and literally cannot get through and i don't have a midwife because i haven't actually told my doctors I'm pregnant yet. Not really sure what to do and I'm now thinking am i still having a miscarriage or just randomly bleeding..

Is there an out of hours number you can call? Try 111 and see what they advise. Sorry, OP. 💐

I had something similar at around 5 weeks. So stressful! Try and ring your gp again and ask for a referral to EPU. If you develop any further pain or the bleeding gets stronger, go to A&E. That's what I ended up doing as I was concerned about it being ectopic. Hope it all goes well for you! x

Sorry you're going through this! Do you know where your local maternity unit is? Can you call them directly?

Sorry you're going through this OP. Are you near an A&E department that also has a GP streaming service? Both times I've miscarried I was advised by my EPU to either get a referral from my GP or go to the GP streaming service for a referral. It was a fair bit of waiting around but like you I couldn't get hold of my GP. I did have midwives both times who then told me to go to GP streaming after I couldn't get through to my Drs surgery.

Thank you for your replies! I have had a miscarriage before and i rang the EPU at my local hospital that told me to go straight in for a scan. I've since moved to a new area and am unfamiliar with the hospitals. I rang the closest one to me who told me to call the GP. I tried the gp 3 times today and waited ages and couldn't get through! Ive not had much pain today and have had light spotting most of today. I will try my doctors again tomorrow and go in and speak to someone if i cannot get through on the phone. I haven't rang 111 but i will call them if the bleeding/pain becomes really bad! Thanks again for your replies!

I had this last week...
gp said ring 111 (Tuesday)
111 at 10am said they'd ring me in two hours
Rang me at 18;00 said I was on the list and keep my phone on
Went to sleep at 1am and missed their call at ten to 5 am so they left vm saying they were closing call
Rang hospital next day they said I need referred so ring gp
Rang gp who said it's now 17;01 so ring 111
Tried to get a prescription for a water infection from boots they said no in case I was still pregnant ring gp
Rang gp they said no apps but drop water in
Heard nothing back so rang 111 Xmas eve and they said they'd see me at 7pm
Was at hospital 7-9 who told me there was E. coli in my water but couldn't get gynae. Eventually did and said they'd invite me for scan before new year
Xmas day pains and bleeding increased and was getting short bursts every three minutes. Up all night. Boxing morning I passed something (won't go into detail)
YESTERDAY they rang me about the scan but I decided I wouldn't go as didn't want to see the empty womb. Less than an hour later midwife rang from gp about my booking on appointment. 🤦🏼‍♀️ so had to go through it twice yesterday

I know there's nothing they can do for us at 6 week but the general lack of interest was bad and meant I struggled on with bleeding pain and water infection for 5 days without help

Im so sorry you've had to go through that! But if i was you i would still go in for a scan incase theres still retained tissue. Thats what happened to me with my first miscarriage.
I had awful cramping pains again last night and thought i must be bleeding really heavy and was shocked when i went to the toilet to find no bleeding at all. Its very confusing. Going to try ring the doctors again today.

If there's no blood you could just be having normal pregnancy cramps. Fingers crossed for you. 😘 xx

Since i sent that message I've had some more bleeding. I managed to get through to my doctors who told me i need to go to A&E which i just really don't want to do right now. I've booked a private early scan for the 2nd and I'm just going to go to that and see what they say. I'm now just resting in bed and going to see how i go.

I was blue lighted in an ambulance to hospital from the scan clinic and have had to have emergency surgery to remove my fallopian tube. Absolutely heartbroken and really uncomfortable after the surgery. Just going to rest up now and am thankful I found out before it was too late!
