Could this be a miscarriage?

I'm 6+4 and this is my first pregnancy.

One week ago, I started having intermittent, light brown spotting. This was almost exclusively when I wiped. A day later, I started having lower back pain. This was mild and eased when I sat or lay down. That night, I saw a single spot of fresh red blood when I wiped.

The following morning the back pain had gone, but the spotting continued. This progressed from brown to red over the next three days. This was almost exclusively whilst on the toilet, very little actually passed out into my underwear or onto a pad. It was light bleeding at most. It often appeared stringy when wiping with tiny clots, with the occasional larger clot or two in the toilet bowl. This spotting faded and has now virtually stopped.

I haven't experienced any cramping when passing clots or blood. I had mild-moderate cramping one night for 30 minutes or so, but I also felt very nauseous so this may have been indigestion following a takeaway?! (my DH had cramps too!). Other than that, I've had one day of feeling like I was going to come on my period (mild, dull aches in lower abdomen and back) but no cramps otherwise.

The EPAU are seeing me for a scan at 9am tomorrow and I'm expecting the worst, but I'd be really interested to gather some opinions on my situation seeing as this is my first pregnancy!

Thanks in advance

I think it could go either way I'm afraid :/ It's positive that you note the bleeding has settled down. I'm glad the EPU are seeing you early so you'll know what's going on very soon.

Thank you.

This is the thing, I really can invisage both scenarios. On the one hand, I'm certain it's a miscarriage because of the combination of backache and some clots. On the other, it seems so small to be a miscarriage! Pretty much no bleeding unless on the toilet and virtually no cramping!

I would brace yourself for bad news, unfortunately. The fresh red blood would be what worried me, though it could be implantation bleeding. I had some bleeding early on but only ever brown (old) blood. I hope, however, it's good news for you 💐

I had this in early pregnancy, same feeling of feeling like period was coming, brown spotting too, and scan showed nothing wrong. I would say, red blood is slightly more concerning but some women do have it in early pregnancy and it doesn't mean anything. It's one of those things where you have to wait and see what scan says. I remember the anticipation of early scans, with one pregnancy I was unfortunately given news that it was an ectopic pregnancy, with the other the baby was fine. I really hope all is OK xx

Try not to worry too much this happened to me at 4w and 5w6 felt like a period was coming and I also had a gush of bright red blood and a small clot, I realised this happened both times after sex so we stopped for a while iv been checked over since and all is fine I never bled with my 2 previous pregnancys so it was so scary but my midwife said she would only worry if it continued and I was soaking pads, I am now nearly 11 weeks, I have everything crossed for you x

Im 6 + 2 and today had brown discharge in liner plus red when I wiped 😭. Getting really worried it’s bad news. Still feeling nauseous as before and tests all strong positives but really want to prepare myself for the worst … did you manage to get a scan? Think I will phone the EPU tomorrow to see if I can get one x
