I've been picking up my babies heartbeat since 10+4...I'm now 11 weeks and I haven't been able to reliably hear it since Christmas eve. I can hear the whoosing of the placenta and I think I can hear the hb behind it. Do you think everhrhibg is OK? Yes I shouldn't use it but I have with my other 2 pregnancies and all fine. I had a mmc in September so it helps. I think I'm also starting to feel flutters but I just want to know baby is OK. Can an anterior placenta develop at 11 weeks? Cos it's so loud and that's all I can hear now, aside from maybe a faint hb. Just worried as I could hear it sooooo clearly before but not now 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ll be the first to ask, are you sure it wasn’t your heartbeat you were picking up before as I was always led to believe that a Doppler can’t pick up a heartbeat at that age?
Either way I’d consider a phone call to your midwife in the morning and try not to worry

cynicat · 27/12/2022 19:38

I was just coming on here to say it was probably your own heartbeat you were picking up!

buckingmad · 27/12/2022 19:39

My midwife said they couldn’t hear a heartbeat with the Doppler before 16 weeks so I’d assume it was never your baby’s heartbeat you were hearing tbh.

if you could hear it that early then why wouldn’t the midwife do it as part of their checks at appointments?

pinkyredrose · 27/12/2022 19:40

Those things cause so many problems . If you're getting flutters you're ok. Stop using it, it's making you anxious. Anxiety will be far worse for the baby.

Coffeellama · 27/12/2022 19:41

It’s too hard to do at that stage, even professionals can’t reliably pick it up, so there’s a very good chance that you haven’t been either and that you were never getting the HB. Which is actually a good thing because it also means that you still just are not reliably picking up the HB, not that anything has necessarily changed with your baby. Put the Doppler away and stop worrying yourself. Book a private scan if you need/can afford. But honestly that Doppler can’t tell you anything more than what strangers on here can tell you.

milkymeg · 27/12/2022 19:43

Not going to grill you and likely everything is fine but even if baby has a heartbeat today dsnt mean it will tomorrow. That's why they don't scan til 12 weeks as it's much less likely to end badly post 12 weeks. People can attack or reassure you but even if you go to the EPU and they agree to scan you, it won't change any outcomes. Please throw away the Doppler. They are so dangerous larer on when you can't feel movements but can "hear a heartbeat" which might be yours or the placenta

tickticksnooze · 27/12/2022 19:47

You say it helps but it's not helping you though, it's just giving you more things to be anxious about.

Duckingella · 27/12/2022 19:57

I'm not going to flame you but to be kind;put the Doppler away and relax, you're pregnant and don't need to be worrying yourself;at this stage it's likely you're own heartbeat you're hearing and even professionals sometimes have difficulty picking up a HB for a baby using one;with my youngest the community midwife struggled even in the later stages of my pregnancy to hear his HB with the Doppler.

Irishgirl55 · 27/12/2022 20:06

My midwife found it very hard to find my babies hb at 17 weeks. Said it's very common and can be really unreliable to hear. She kept picking up my heartbeat and placenta. Tbh you have probably been picking up your own, but if you are worried a call to the midwife won't do any harm.

candycrush789 · 27/12/2022 20:07

I know what the heartbeat sounds like I definitely found it. I've had 2 children and I know the difference between mine, the placenta and the baby and it was 1 million percent the baby. I've thrown the doppler away now, I THINK I heard it behind the placenta but I'm not sure it was enough to make me feel better. My dating scan is 2 weeks away..its gonna be a long 2 weeks. I've been to a scan and heard 'I'm really sorry there's no heartbeat anymore' and I don't wanna hear that again 😔

Trained midwives don't use Dopplers til 16wks. I think it's very very unlikely that whatever you heard was the baby's heartbeat tbh.

FuntCase · 27/12/2022 20:14

You might have had 2 children but you don’t know more than the trained professionals that tell you these machines are dangerous in untrained hands for the very reason of how easy it is to misuse them. Put it down and please stop feeding your anxiety.

BrewandBiscuit · 27/12/2022 20:18

You haven’t been picking up the baby’s heartbeat at 10 weeks.

I am a midwife and sometimes struggle to hear with a hospital grade sonicaid before 16 weeks.

Wait for your dating scan and relax

milkymeg · 27/12/2022 20:50

You might not want to hear bad news but even if there is bad news nobody can change anything. Science just isn't there yet. I'm sorry and sending you positive thoughts but you have to relax. Everyone finds the first 12-20 weeks impossibly hard

candycrush789 · 27/12/2022 21:09

The heartbeat was 175bpm. I know what it sounds like. I sent it to my auntie who is a mw. I can't ask her now for advice as my uncle is really ill in hospital. I've binned it and going to hope for the best 🤷🏻‍♀️

They move around a lot so try not to over think it. I could hear my baby pretty early (can't remember if as early as you) but couldn't hear it everytime early on.

Someo · 27/12/2022 23:46

It is possible to pick it up at 10 weeks actually, I did. I took a video and showed it my MW at my booking. She didn't seem overly shocked either, she just said not to rely on them or worry and basically see it as a bit of fun.

Anyway, try not to worry OP. They're still so so tiny at that stage. Lots of room to hide. You could always try and book a private reassurance scan if you can't wait two weeks but as another PP said they don't offer any guarantees either aside from reassurance in the moment.

candycrush789 · 28/12/2022 13:33

I've got a scan booked today for 5.15 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'll update later!

Coffeellama · 28/12/2022 19:48

how did the scan go OP?

candycrush789 · 28/12/2022 20:14

It went fine. Stupid me. Thrown the doppler in the bin. I'm measuring a day ahead which is good. It looks like a baby now..so pleased and my sch has shrunk too! I'm going to start enjoying this pregnancy now!

Cindy974 · 28/12/2022 21:15

@candycrush789 so glad to hear everything was okay. Can I ask what size your sch was and how did you get it to shrink? Ive just be told I have a 2cm one today and worried sick
(i also couldn’t find a heartbeat on my doppler the other day and baby was perfect today apart from the sch)

candycrush789 · 28/12/2022 21:32

It was 5cm now it's 2cm. And nothing lol, just haven't had sex etc it's come out in spotting or reabsorbed! Glad your baby is OK x
