Missed miscarriage..

Absolutely heartbroken as I’ve just been told I’m having a missed miscarriage. Went for a scan at what should be 7.5 weeks and just saw an empty sac.

I was diagnosed with a subchronionic hematoma two weeks ago and told to expect some bleeding.. I’ve been bleeding for a few days so went to the EPU as I knew something wasn’t right. When I got there they told me the hematoma has gone but also the sac is completely empty and they’d expect to see something at this stage. (Just to add I’m very sure of my dates).

I’m going back in 10 days for another scan but not really been told what to expect during these 10 days. Just that if I bleed extremely heavily then go to A&E. I was so upset in the appointment that I just didn’t ask all the questions.

Anyone that’s been through a missed miscarriage, what should I expect? I just want this to be over with 😔

Hi, haven’t experienced this myself but I saw your thread on the active tab and just want to pass on a virtual hug ❤

@Cinnamon03 I had a missed miscarriage in the summer, if you haven’t already have a look at the miscarriage/pregnancy loss board, there’s loads of ladies on there who’ve been through the same and that really helped me! I hadn’t bled at all so I chose to have the medical management route, I didn’t have to wait 10 days because the baby was there but just didn’t have a heartbeart. If you’ve already started bleeding you could possibly miscarry naturally, my bleeding wasn’t too bad, I was able to carry on as normal and just wear night period pads. I’m so sorry for your loss, it’s the most awful thing to go through😢 xx

I had a mmc in July. I had a bit of bleeding (light spotting) and rang EPU. Aside from the light bleeding nothing started after waiting a week so I chose to have medical management and had a little op to remove the pregnancy.

Thoughts are with you ❤️

So sorry to here this. My recent mmc started as light spotting. Went to epu 5 days later and got told had to wait a week for a second scan. I was too scared to leave the house as was spotting but for me the bleeding got heavier for me 10 days after initial spotting started, progressed over a few hours to extremely heavy with large clots. Ended up falling epu at 1am as was feeling awful and bleeding so much but a few hours later things lightened up again. Bleeding (like a light period) then continued for about 12 days and has recently stopped for me. In the meantime went for the second scan where they confirmed all the material had passed. My advice is to be prepared, get some large pads in and also painkillers so you're ready for it if it happens. Thinking of you and hope you are ok x

I had a MM and chose the DMC route which was best for me but I have friends who chose to let nature take its course and that was best for them. It's more painful the latter way but I think you get better closure as it was weird for me just waking up and it being over but I'm glad as I wasn't strong enough to go through the physical pain etc. Which ever you choose will be best for you but hard either way. I'm so sorry, I know it's horrific right now and nothing we say will help but I promise you will feel better in time and I wish you strength in the next few weeks

Hi OP. So sorry you’re going through this- I have had three MMC but count myself lucky that I never had to have any intervention. On all occasions the embryo had stopped developing a week or so before, so the bleeding started within a week (7 days was the longest) of me finding out. With my first one I was told in my follow up scan that they could see things were “breaking down” and right enough I started bleeding that evening. My recollection is that the bleeds started light but gradually got heavier.

Get in some strong pain relief (my first one was the worst, took me completely by surprise how painful it was), plenty of super duper pads and dark towels or puppy pads to sit on or use in bed. I found that the severe bleeding came in waves and during those periods it was very, very heavy.

Also be kind to yourself. It’s fucking shit. On every occasion I took two weeks off work and just flaked on the sofa, watching the 1995 Pride & Prejudice with a pack of fruit shortbread biscuits.

So sorry for your loss. Yes when I went to the epu they didn’t prepare me enough for what a miscarriage ‘could’ involve. ‘A heavy period’ was an understatement for me. The 2.5days of intense cramps in waves was painful, a hot water bottle was a nice comfort. Then I had a three hour session on the toilet with gushes of blood/stuff. I then ended up choosing surgery 5weeks later due to retained products.

Everyone is different though, I know a few who had a quick and straightforward miscarriage, not too much pain or bleeding.

Oh I also went to a pregnancy massage lady I knew from having DD, more for a bit of me-time and to feel like I was actually doing something whilst I waited for things to start. She’s a bit woo but she said to me that rather than me blaming my body and thinking it let me down, it knew how badly I wanted that baby and so hung on for me as long as possible even when it was hopeless. I’m quite a cynical person but that gave me a lot of comfort x

Hey I know this is a thread from a month ago, however I had a mmc in December also. We were at my 12w scan when we were told there was no heartbeat. I had surgical management the week of Christmas, just wondering how long it’ll be for me to have a period? I thought I ovulated just over 2 weeks ago due to cm but still no period. I know it takes a while just wondering everyone’s experiences. Tia x
