Movement at 39 weeks

Hi all, I'm currently 39 weeks and today baby's movement hasn't followed his normal pattern. I am still feeling movement but it's more sporadic, whereas normally he's very active in the evenings.

I've been in twice before for reduced movement (at 29 weeks and 38 weeks) - both times I hadn't felt any movement at all for a few hours but as soon as I was strapped to the monitor he started kicking away and there were no concerns.

If I wasn't feeling anything I'd 100% ring triage and head in now, but as I am still feeling movement I don't know whether to bother. I don't want to waste anyone's time if it is just nothing. I had a scan last week and mentioned to the midwife about movement changing... Frequency was the same but they felt much less "violent" than they used to. More rolls and shuffles compared to the kicks and punches I was used to. She told me at this stage it was totally normal and just baby running out of room. So I'm wondering if maybe baby has just changed position slightly and that why I'm not feeling as much?

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Please get triaged and seen. Any change in usual movement should be checked out.

Babies do not run out of room!

It's never a waste of time. Please ring them and get checked - if your worried enough to make a post, you need to ring the MAU. They are the only ones who can put your mind to rest!

Midwife here. Baby should still follow the usual pattern until you give birth. Call your maternity unit 24/7 number immediately and get yourself seen please.

Please ring triage, always check with any change in movement, I was seen about a dozen times for reduced movement and they always said I had done the right thing by calling x

Please get checked out!
Baby's do not run out of room that is proven to be old fashioned and dangerous advice.

Ring triage. Right now. Do not wait. This is important.

Agree with everyone, wanted to add my support though. You are never wasting time just call and go in. Hopefully all is fine though xx

Rachaelrachael · 26/12/2022 20:57

Thanks everyone - rang them and just got to hospital now. I'm sure it's nothing but better safe than sorry
