Moving house - panicking!!!

Hi everyone, I guess I could just do with a handhold really please!

We move house this week and I’m really struggling. I’m 22 weeks pregnant.

It’s the 3rd time we’ve moved house in 2 years (this will be the last for a long, long time!) and I did nearly everything the last two times but I’m just really struggling.
My back is really bad (I’ve had surgery on it 3 times in the past anyway) and I’ve got stomach cramps/pains and I just can’t stop crying at the moment. It’s just so overwhelming how much stuff needs boxing up and packing.

My OH is great and doing as much as he can (as he’s off work at the moment but was at work the last few times we’ve moved) but we don’t have anyone else who’s able to help us.

I’m just panicking that we’re not going to have everything packed and out in time and that I could be hurting the baby by overdoing things 😔

Are you able to hire packers/removal team? For the cost at least you would be abit more rested, bit less chance of accidentally pulling something given relaxin. I hate moving house, it is stressful. Best of luck.

We’ve got to be out on Thursday (29th) so I don’t think we’d be able to hire any official packers/movers now 😬

There’s a man with a van coming to help us move the big things (sofas, beds, furniture, big boxes of stuff etc.) on Thursday morning but it’s the boxing up that’s making me panic so much.

We've also got dogs to walk and horses to sort out and I’m just exhausted!!

You might well get a cancelation to get packers in.
If you are on Facebook, post now, stating you are moving on Thursday, and are looking for quotes from anyone with availability this week.

ffsagain123 · 26/12/2022 14:56

As PP said get it out there that you are moving, there may be cancellations etc plus winter isn't the most popular time to move normally so you might be surprised and get something. Fingers crossed!

We've moved 6 times in the past 4 years. Including twice when pregnant with my second, and once when she was 4 months old (that was a huge move from a different country). My advice is always to get packers. It's worth a go even at short notice.

Thank you for your replies.

I have got Facebook, for messenger but don’t use normal Facebook.
Where should I post, to look for some help?

If things weren’t stressful and worrying enough, our Man with a Van has just messaged to say he’s double booked himself so can’t do Thursday!!! 😱
He might be able to do Wednesday instead but I don’t think we can be ready by then and we’ve got cleaners booked for the house that we’re moving into for Wednesday.

OMG @Whatafielddayfortheheat how did you do that!!!!! Are you settled now?

If your man has cancelled, this is the idea time to get packers in as a replacement (it’s a surprisingly small proportion of the move cost). Contact every local remover, and post on any local community pages saying what you need and seeing if they have a late cancellation.

Generally, the packers come in the day before the move, and you can go from ‘everyday living’ to ‘in the van in boxes’ without you lifting a finger.

(Moved internationally 6 weeks after DS was born, again just after his first birthday, then nationally at 38 weeks with DD…. Packers were the only way we survived that. 3 more moves over the following 5 years, all with packers.)

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 26/12/2022 16:27

@i83 no unfortunately we have at least 2 more moves to go before we can settle. But it does get easier the more you do it! I would email/call all the local firms you can find, and also join your local Facebook pages (for the nearest big town) and ask if anyone can do it. Good luck!
