Advice needed from girls who have spotted in early pregnancy

Hi girls, I am roughly 5 and half / 6 weeks pregnant. And I had some spotting yesterday but only when I put my finger in and kind of "checked inside" , it was a little bit brown at the start and later in the day it was more pink. I did have sex the day before.

I went to the maternity hospital and they did speculum and said cervix looks closed, the urine test came back really strong and he didn't wait for blood work to come back from the lab before he scanned.

When he scanned it was abdominally and he could Only see the pregnancy sac and nothing in there yet. He rebooked me back in for a an epu appointment for this Wednesday where he said their machines are better and could do internal scan.

Has anyone been through something similar and had a positive outcome? I'm finding it hard to put it to bed in my head I just keep

@Irishwifey I had spotting a couple of times in my first trimester for my first pregnancy, more spotting that you've described. He's now a healthy 3 year old boy. I heard a podcast say that up to 70 percent of women experience spotting throughout their pregnancy.

Thank you so much for your reply. It's such a worrying time as I had a an early loss the month before this pregnancy. 😢 it's very hard to relax but it's all a waiting game and I'm struggling.

Should I be worrying about all they could see on the scan? I suppose I am early and it was absdominal which wasn't ideal , I also have a substantial pouch of fat on my abdomen so thinking this wouldn't help either as I hold my weight on my tummy.

The speculum exam yesterday that it dissolved? It looks brown does that mean it's ok?

Why is it so stringy? Is that good or bad sorry for the gross photo

Hey OP! Can't help much with the photo but brown doesn't suggest fresh blood to me. I've had spotting previously that ended in second trimester, and a friend has had quite heavy bleeding due to a haematoma. It's stressful and rubbish but it really is a waiting game now, I've had losses and it's like waiting for an axe to drop. I had spotting at 5 weeks and then a bleed at 6 weeks - enough to fill a couple of pads. I was away for work when I had the 6 week bleed and spent a horrible night alone in A&E before they scanned me at the early pregnancy unit. They tried an abdominal scan and couldn’t see anything then did an internal scan and thankfully saw a heartbeat. It’s really too early to see anything from an abdominal scan, I had IVF so I also knew my exact dates. Is there a chance you are earlier than you think? Due to IVF I had other scans at 8 weeks and 10 weeks, even then vaginal scans were used so they could see more clearly. Brown blood is old blood so it doesn’t look like you are actively bleeding at the moment, just it’s still making it’s way out. Try not to worry and wait until your internal scan. My bleed was enough to fill a couple of pads and put down to a small subchorionic hematoma which disappeared completely by 12 weeks. There are so many reasons for bleeding in pregnancy and I was told by the nurse that it was much more likely to go to term than not, I’m 38 weeks now and haven’t had any other problems - it’s actually been a really easy pregnancy. It's really hard to detect a heartbeat before 7 weeks. Also, spotting is very, very common in pregnancy. Basically, there is no news to indicate a miscarriage at this point. Of course miscarriages do happen, so nobody can totally reassure you, but these symptoms do not equal a miscarriage.

Just wanted to update this in case any body comes across in the future. I had a little more pink discharge since.

But.... I had an internal scan today showing a healthy pregnancy and heartbeat. What a relief. Thank you all who commented and gave me reassurance ❤️

I am currently 1-2 weeks pregnant on clear blue I have been the hospital and my levels have risen slowly from 16 to 22 in a day but I’ve had a scan and it’s a pul pregnancy I have to go back Friday for bloods I had a eptopic three months ago but I’ve lost a clot and bleeding but it’s stopped now I’m thinking I may of lost it

Hi Lovely, I gave birth to my little boy last June and I spotted quite a few times with him after I had sex with my OH! I was really worried but they put it down to irritated cervix due to the sexual intercourse. Mine was light pink/red and I also had some brown like the picture! Hoping it all goes well for you 🤞🏼

also, at 5 and a half weeks pregnant you won’t see much on an abdominal scan at all really, internal is the way to go so hoping you get to see your little bub with a heartbeat when you go back 🥰

Hi thank you so much some people have said that and it was just after sex and then the morning I started to bleed and was worried cause I lost that ammount of blood and also clots my bleeding has stopped now my levels are 22 now they was 16 yesterday I’ve got to go back on Friday for more bloods hopefully they’ve gone ip just hoping isn’t miss carriage would I bleed as much thank you helped me a lot they did vaginal scan but she said she wasn’t looking for pregnancy she was making sure wasn’t epripic but she said they couldn’t see anything on the scan atm I’m 1-2 weeks on a test witch means 3 plus I think x
