Mixed responses on this. Are they safe to eat? For example, cheese wrapped in Serrano or chorizo. It’s on the Boxing Day buffet!

The NHS advice is no to cured meats. Probably fine but I think there is a small listeria risk.

I'd only eat if cooked. I know some people say the risk is tiny but to me , I'd feel awful if something happened.

Supposed to heat them first as they are cured rather than cooked

Didn't even know that was a thing...ate both of those during both pregnancies

Emmamoo89 · 26/12/2022 11:59

Put them in the freeze for 4 days and then you can eat them.

Freezer*

I come from Spain so this is something around daily. Recommendations are to freeze the ham for minimum of 2 days and cook chorizo. I'm on 3rd pregnancy and always stayed away from it. Don't trust it but that's just me. I do know of friends that have had it during pregnancy.

My midwife told me that if it was from a supermarket (pre packaged) it would be fine. But she wouldn't trust it from a counter or farm shop as you couldn't guarantee the curing process
