Insomnia

I am 10 weeks pregnant and for the past few weeks I’ve been waking at 1 and unable to get back to sleep until around 4/5 in the morning. I have a two year old so obviously not long then until he wakes.

It’s driving me absolutely mad and to be honest getting me down a bit. Everything I’ve read says I am apparently stressed about the birth Hmm I’m really not.

I am exhausted all day and have awful headaches and just generally not functioning very well. Anyone else had this? I didn’t have it with DS but struggling a fair bit now.

I had this quite badly with my first pregnancy. It was annoying and lasted a few weeks if I remember correctly! I just accepted it after the first week, moved into the spare room and embraced it as tv catch up time or time to read. I’m actually ten weeks pregnant myself now and awake at this time so maybe it’s starting again! Anyway, pregnancy insomnia is a thing and I really don’t think it’s anxiety/birth related.

7wks and the insomnia is biting my 🍑 been waking up at 3:15 or 5am for the past week or so 🤦‍♀️

Does it go away or does it last the full pregnancy?

I had similar throughout my second pregnancy, wasn't anxiety about the birth/baby but probably wasn't helped by trying to move house ! I spent the first two trimesters absolutely exhausted. I picked up by the third although still had bouts of insomnia occasionally. I've got a squishy newborn keeping me awake now!

All the best for this pregnancy, hope you manage to get some rest

It's not just anxiety, they are hormonal reasons for pregnancy insomnia, and yes it may last the entire pregnancy. Some sleep medications are safe to take during pregnancy, don't hesitate to ask your midwife about them.

Thanks, I may have to. It wouldn’t be too bad if I didn’t already have a two year old!

I’m currently 7 + 3 with my first pregnancy and I’ve been having trouble staying asleep for about a week to a week and a half now. I’m fine getting to sleep and ready for bed from 8pm but as soon as it hits the early hours I’m wide awake and can get the odd 30 minutes in then I’m awake again. It’s really not like me as I’m usually out like a light! I am worrying a little about things so put it down to that.
