How Do I Look (the good, the bad and the ugly of being pregnant)

ok, i'm now 37 weeks into this, so reckon i'm officially an expert. (or a h'expert, as the kids round these parts would say)

here what i think, good stuff first:

the bump i like. i really do. feels like a right pain of course, but looks quite nice. and i like the strangers comments 'cause of it.

for the first six months, my skin really was fab, as was my hair. both of these could be due to stopping smoking and drinking.

the bad goes like this:

i cant look at my boobs. it's not just the size, but the funny shape of them. since about four months in, they've looked pointy and mishapen and ready to feed. now that the blighters have actually started to dribble, i have officially fallen out with them.

hmm... next one is boob related, but brings me to neatly onto the subject of veins. ughgghhh. the ones of my chest and neck are practically varicose... and the ones that were varicose before i got pg, are worse. a special shout out must go to the big swirly one on the back of my right calf that would not look out of place bursting out of signourney weaver's stomach in alien.

hmmm.... that's it for me. you?

I remember the boob veins.... amazing what your body can do to grow another person and keep you going. Be proud of yourself. I'm quite jealous of you. It's amazing how little your own appearance matters to you once you have that baby inn your arms.

whatcha doing up at this time? heartburn, nesting or non-specific worries?

tyaca · 03/02/2008 02:07

@ heartburn etc.... none of your list, and neither was i assessing self in mirror ...

Also love my skin (rosy cheeks) and big bump.

Hate my swollen bum and thighs & vein along inner right leg.

Love my hormonal balance too (no mood swings/happy/calm/great sex drive). Gives me a glow. Wish could remain like that

talktothemoths · 03/02/2008 02:18

are you feeling OK though? have you had a good pregnancy?

I really get a warm glow thinking back to those last weeks of pregnancy and honestly get jealous thinking of all that love you have to come.

talktothemoths · 03/02/2008 02:21

sorry name change there (tho not very clever one)

tyaca and slim , you're just both bursting with life and it's so wonderful.

slim22 · 03/02/2008 02:27

It is. Four years since my last pregnancy. Although physically more challenging this time, still love every minute of it.
14 weeks to go and it's great to also have DS patting and blowing raspberries on my belly too this time.

I'm up because it's 10:30 am on my side of the world. And you?

slim22 · 03/02/2008 02:29

Tyaca you're due end of this month......pisces are lovely people.

Pk616 · 03/02/2008 02:51

no I'm not stalking I'm bored shitless!
I'm 39 wks n a bit

love:

my hormonal balance - PCOS sufferer (hormonal imbalance causing things like depression and weight gain and bad skin)Pregnancy has sorted me out an dI don't think I've felt this good in over a decade

the fact that I've lost weight - yup I weigh less and wear a smaller dress size than before pregnancy!

the fact that I can leave the housework for days if I don't feel up to it and I don't have to explain myself

my bump

watching the bump move

hate:

my nips - they've gone so dark they're almost black (plus they're sore)

boob veins - there's a right nasty one that seems to want to break freebut it's only on one side so there's not even symmetry!

the attention

the dry skin at the top of my nose and in my ears - the reat of my skin is fab, it's most odd!

not being able to sleep when I want to or stay awake when I want that

no sex drive - for me or DP!

indigestion

having to sleep with ten thousand pillows

being too warm in bed

restless legs

not being able to reach things including my feet!

slim22 · 03/02/2008 02:55

I'm thinking of asking my ob-gyn to do my blood works to try and replicate hormonal levels post pregancy?

Does that sound weird? Would she laugh?

Pk616 · 03/02/2008 02:57

Slim - If I could keep my hormones as they are for post pregnancy I totally would but yes I think she'd laugh!

slim22 · 03/02/2008 04:27

Surely there must be something.........other than prozac!
