Hi Ladies,

I did the GTT test for gestational diabetes earlier in the week. I fasted from 10pm the night before but on the morning of my test i woke up and had a sip of black currant squash, i completely didnt think!

I have just had a call from hospital as my result was 7.9 and cut off was 7.8. They asked me to attend a diabetes clinic. I explained about the sip of drink and they have asked me to either take my blood sugars for 2 weeks or have the test redone in 2 days. I am going to have the test redone.

Do you think a mouthful of squash could of affected my result? I already have health anxiety so dreading a positive result after truly fasting!

Feel it for you, those tests are absolutely brutal! I’ve had 2 this pregnancy.

I find they’re often quick to say things you eat and drink don’t impact the result but my midwife told me she has seen it so many times. I ate my leftover Chinese sweet and sour before doing a urine sample for the hospital, without thinking. That resulted in an emergency test as my sugar reading was really high.
I know this doesn’t help you feel any better but, I’m not sure that just a mouthful of squash could have changed the test that much though.

I think you’re best off doing the test again as you plan to and having nothing whatsoever (I know you forgot, easily done!) to get a better picture. Only that can really tell you.

Sorry you’re having prolonged uncertainty over it
