Anyone else got this horrible virus?

22 weeks pregnant and been struck down by this awful virus so many people seem to have at the moment. Horrendous cough to the point of being sick, no energy or appetite, sore throat, headache, fever and chills to name but a few. Covid tests all negative despite being in close contact with a lot of people who tested positive at the weekend.

Slightly worried about tightness of chest and shortness of breath but obviously can’t get a GP appt.

No real point to this post other than looking for others who are also suffering for solidarity and any shared tips etc.

Me too but I'm not pregnant. It's awful. Am feeling v sorry for myself. Hope you feel better soon

Mum2be86 · 21/12/2022 11:07

Same here 23 weeks and no energy due to it at all, been prescribed antibiotics, inhaler and steroids but unable to get hold of antibiotics at the moment, couldn’t stop being sick yesterday not been able to eat much now for two days due to the sore throat been told I have chest and throat infection feeling pretty horrific.
sending you hugs and hope you feel better soon.

PopsicleHustler · 21/12/2022 11:10

I am having this. I am.also asthmatic and wound up in A&e weekend before last as my chest was so tight and it was horrible. I am 37+4 and just hope i will be better in time for the baby and delivery. Could be any day now with him being baby number 6!
I had a rotten, sore throat, constant cough where it brought me to vomiting phlegm. I had a streaming nose and symptoms of flu on top. I lost a load of weight because I wasn't eating, and went off a lot of food. So weak, I could barely walk and I lost my voice. My throat was so sore it was like I had barbed wire in my neck. I honestly have had a real rough time of it. I was given antibiotics which did help, but the course has now finished and I still have a cough but its not making me heave and splutter anymore. Just gets worse when I lie down.

Hope you feel better soon. It is rough. Maybe try and get your doctor to give you antibiotics because can last for weeks. And our immune systems are obviously not the strongest while pregnant! My Gp was just telling me to go on paracetamol and drink honey and lemon and ride it out, whilst I was sat in her office in a wheelchair because my legs were like jelly. I think I would have still have been suffering with it now if I had not gone to A&e and gotten the clairythromycin! Wish you all the best

Thanks everyone, I’m sorry to hear others are suffering too. I’m desperately hoping I can get hold of a GP today as feeling even worse now.

Not pregnant, but I have it too, and now in week 3 of feeling bloody awful. Rest up and take care of yourself.

Mum2be86 · 22/12/2022 08:45

@PopsicleHustler I’m the exact same as you, had a nightmare even getting the antibiotics so only just starting them but feel horrific, I’ve got a blood condition that weakens my immune system so can’t seem to fight it, also asthmatic trying to rest as much as I can but like you I have multiple others (on baby number 7 kids at home are age between 10 and 18) started now with the cough and runny/stuffy nose. Hope it’s all over soon so can enjoy Christmas 😢

take care everyone and get lots of rest denting lots of get well wishes xx

Mum2be86 · 22/12/2022 08:45

@Charl881 hope you can get some antibiotics soon really does sound like you need them. Fingers crossed for you today x

Courtjobby · 22/12/2022 08:58

So on day 3 of feeling awful with the virus I tested positive co I'd, apparently this strain takes longer to test positive for

Charl881 · 22/12/2022 09:23

Spoken to a nurse at the GP surgery and she’s recommended ibuprofen which I always thought was a big no in pregnancy?! She said the benefit outweighs the risk, but doesn’t want to prescribe antibiotics because I’m pregnant.

Mum2be86 · 22/12/2022 09:29

@Charl881 that don’t sound right to me as ibuprofen should be avoided if tight chest etc also. Can you not push to see your Gp or call 111 I would be asking for a second opinion really. Maybe speak with your midwife also she may be able to help x

Charl881 · 22/12/2022 11:01

@Mum2be86 honestly the things she came out with I was quite surprised with! I think I have a GP calling me this afternoon so will wait to see what they say before doing anything.

I've also been super sick with a cold/ flu type thing... I'm 25 weeks tomorrow. It is so hard on top of normal pregnancy fatigue, plus I have a 2 year old. Zonked! I've been having extra vitamin c (you can have up to 2000mg per day when pregnant I believe, I've been sticking to about 1000-1500mg), fresh lemon, honey and ginger drinks, loads of water, taking my prenatals, even had a raw garlic clove yesterday... it's all helped a bit I think! I was bed bound Sat-Tues but felt a bit better yesterday and able to work today (from home!). Hope you feel better soon x

Skylark1990 · 22/12/2022 13:16

Really odd you were told to take ibuprofen! Not safe in pregnancy.... also if it's viral, antibiotics won't help anyway, so that's moot. Hopefully the GP gives you some good advice! Paracetamol helps a bit x

Charl881 · 22/12/2022 17:26

Spoke to the doctor who said the odd one or two ibuprofen in pregnancy won’t harm but not to take regularly but definitely need antibiotics - literally the opposite of the nurse. Anyway I have started antibiotics and trying to stay on top of paracetamol, fingers crossed we are all better for Christmas.

@Skylark1990 honey lemon and ginger is a good idea, I find honey and lemon quite boring but love ginger, didn’t think to add it in!

I am not pregnant but too have had this awful virus, started 13th December I thought oh bugger I have a cold for my wedding on the 18th… well I certainly did and still battling it. It’s gone from sore head exhausted covered in snot to thinking I was feeling better to an awful sore throat day before Xmas Eve and still battling this really really sore throat. My daughter 12 has been Sick with this now also for over 3 weeks, I am not sure but when I seen my auntie Xmas day she sounded terrible and said she had had influenza a (she works in a care home) so unsure if this is what we have had but sounded very similar in symptoms and duration. I am at the point of being very pissed off with it now, weirdly my autistic son doesn’t have it and id absolutely fine same with husband… defo not covid been testing, il do anything to get rid of this!!

PopsicleHustler · 27/12/2022 12:34

My son who is asthmatic has been battling this for almost 4 weeks now!!!!!

TranquilWater · 15/01/2023 14:17

Sympathies with you all. I have a hideous bug too, no sore throat, but cough, headache, myalgia, nausea/vomiting, exhaustion. Feels like a wrecking crew has moved into my body.

Charl881 · 16/01/2023 12:42

Sorry to hear that @TranquilWater, it’s horrible isn’t it! I was ill just before Christmas and still don’t feel I’ve properly shaken it. Feel better soon.

usedtolovenaps · 16/01/2023 16:10

I do.... Been coughing for 6+ weeks until I would start throwing up. Went to surgery twice both times to be told just to wait it out. On top of this cough, I now have a terrible throat that won't be helped by paracetamol and increased body temp which is currently below 37.8 so not a fever.
No idea what to do as nurses won't prescribe any meds and I feel like shit 😔
It's been over 2 months now.

SeekingAnswerz · 16/01/2023 20:17

I had this and it lasted 4ish weeks, everything you describe resonates with me. It’s got to be the sickest I’ve ever been in my life. I was so lethargic and the phlegm was definitely the worst part for me as it triggered the nausea. It didn’t fully shift till the end of the 4th week, I could feel it sitting in my chest and throat, most disgusting feeling ever. I feel your pain and hope it shifts soon because I know exactly how miserable it can make a person x

Cherylliam86 · 17/01/2023 18:59

Since my last post on 27/12 I thought I would update 😁… so I still have the sore throat which weirdly swaps sides and The pain can be made worse by moving my tongue! Been to docs last week as was pissed off with it she said glands are up and it’s tonsillitis gave me 10 days of penicillin vk, now have taken them for 6 days and have no improvement but no worse either so plodded back today… nurse said throat looks red but can’t feel glands keep taking antibiotic … urgh!!!! I want to feel normal again!!!
