Chest infection/antibiotics - 5 months pregnant

Hi everyone, I’m going to call my GP later today but I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience of a chest infection during pregnancy?

I’m 5 months pregnant and I’ve had a stinking cold for about a week and now it’s gone to my chest.

I’ve done lots of covid tests which have all been negative but I know there’s lots of things going round.

I’m just wondering whether it’s safer for the baby, for me to just ride it out and hope I get better soon or to have antibiotics to get it cleared up more quickly.

I might not even be able to get antibiotics, with how things are at the moment!

I’d normally just battle through but just wondering what’s best for the baby really.

Is anyone else in this position or had experience of this?

I had a chest infection at around 5 months and was prescribed amoxicillin which is safe to take when pregnant. I was so glad to take it because I felt so unwell but felt much better within a few days of taking it. If you have an infection it is important to clear it, even more so when pregnant. A chest infection could lead to something worse ie pneumonia so definitely best to clear it.

Thank you for your reply @OrcaBlondie

That’s kind of what I was thinking. I finally got through to the GP this morning, after being on hold for 1hr20mins (!) and they suggested going to the pharmacy.

I’ll try a pharmacy but might press the GP further.

We move house soon so I could really do with being on the mend!

You increase the baby's risk of developing allergies. I wouldn't take any in your situation.
