Risk of exposure to salmonella at 31 weeks pregnant?

My poor Mum has been ill for weeks with what seemed like IBS symptoms. She's just had tests back from GP and it turns out she has salmonella! DP and I are due to visit for Christmas from Monday (we live in different cities) Mum asked doctor about if it was safe for me to go and doctor said that's up to us but if I do go to be super careful: no sharing towels, no hugging 😥Mum is starting antibiotics tomorrow but doctor has said she could be contagious for weeks with more tests planned for after Christmas.

Mum is now extremely worried about us coming. I was so looking forward to it but don't want to take a stupid risk. I've struggled with UTIs and bad colds and general indigestion/tummy pain/back pain ickiness since I started third trimester and obviously don't want to be poorly again or risk harm to baby. I am going to call midwife tomorrow to ask her advice but does anyone have any experience of this or advice? What would you do?

Sorry OP, but if I were in your position I definitely wouldn't be going. If it were my mum she would also absolutely tell me not to come!!!

Just postpone the visit if you can.

I'm so sorry OP, what a terrible situation. I'd honestly not risk it Flowers

How horrible for you! I am another who thinks it would be too risky for me. I would wait to see her when she is well clear of it.

Thanks for replying everyone. Mum has slept on it and asked us not to come, which of course is the most sensible option. I know it's the right thing to do and she'd be so stressed about passing it on, wiping everything down etc, that it would ruin her Christmas anyway 😰Quiet Christmas for us it is (last one!)
