Vanishing twin - still very large bump at 9w?

Hi all,
Right from 4 weeks of pregnancy I was vomiting quite severely, after almost every meal and often couldn’t keep fluids down either. By 7 weeks I had a bump that was probably partly bloat but it was making us question if it was multiples (I also have fluid in my pelvis which would have been probably having an effect too).
I went for a scan at 8 weeks and sure enough was told it was twins, but unfortunately I had miscarried one of them. No bleeding, it had just been reabsorbed. We were able to see that the embryo had been reabsorbed but the sac was still there.
I still have quite a significant bump, which is fine, I just can’t hide that I’m pregnant! I’m in maternity wear as my clothes don’t fit. I always was very slim and had a completely flat stomach, and even when I’d get severely bloated it was a different shape. This is very bump-shaped and hard. Did anyone’s bump still progress like a twin bump even when they’d miscarried a twin early? I’m 9.5 weeks.

My nausea has settled a little, presumably as the miscarriage is completing. I now don’t vomit every meal!

Thanks.

Hello!
I'm so sorry about your vanishing twin.

I am currently 19w with twins and my bump is maybe the same size or slightly smaller than yours in that pic. However, between 7 and 11 weeks I was v bloated and my stomach felt hard, i thought maybe it was bump, but it then went back to mostly flat again and an actual bump started to appear at week 16, only really becoming noticeable at 18w. These are my first babies.

It might flatten out again and then bump appear later! Babies aren't really big enough at 9 or 10 weeks to cause an actual baby bump, they're so so small at that point.

I had a vanishing twin. Had terrible sickness, couldn't keep anything down until 7 weeks and it's all suddenly got better. Had my 12 week scan and there was the twin, they suggested around 7 weeks old which makes perfect sense. The other twin is now a happy 9 year old who is none the wiser.

Thanks both. I know that the baby is too small to cause a bump, I’m only 10 weeks, but I know that a lot of the time with twins the bump starts in the first trimester. Glad to hear that your surviving twin is doing so well :)
