Hi I'm not sure if I've picked the right topic. But we are currently in the middle of buying our pram and car seat, and a friend has offered to give us her semi universal isofix base for the car seat, I can't find any information online whether it fits every car seat and so on!

Can any mums or dads help, and are the isofix bases essential xx

TIA x

Hi, no they don't fit every seat. Semi universal is a term that means it fits using a seatbelt and support leg. Universal = goes in any position in the car, but the semi bit is because the leg can cause problems e.g. if you have hollow storage boxes in the back of your car or for placing over the central hump.

You'll need to ask her what exact base it is or what car seat she used it with. My guess is it will be a Maxi Cosi as those are the most common. In which case you'll need the old style Maxi Cosi Cabriofix to fit it, which isn't sold any more, only the new i-size Cabriofix, which isn't compatible.

You don't need a base unit for the car seat but a lot of people like to have one as it is convenient. If you do want a base, you need to find out which one fits your car seat or vice versa.
