Not sure if it's just pregnancy thing or if the pregnacare is genuinely making me sicker but I've noticed I could be feeling fine then take pregnacare and I feel like crap not long after

Pregnacare is synthetic junk, for many reasons but the main one being that folic acid is harmful and no longer recommended. Look up brands like biocare, garden of life for vitamins with safer ingredients that are bio-available and contain folate rather than the dangerous folic acid. If your diet is largely clean and nutrient dense then I really wouldn’t waste your money on vitamins. Instead spend your cash on organic meat, cheese, milk, yoghurt, fruit and green leafy vegetables.

FlyOnTheWall89 · 05/12/2022 14:02

@Spockrates ignore the above. Folic acid / folate absolutely is recommended still.

Yes Pregnacare definitely made me feel sick .... I really hated them. Make sure you've tried taking them as per instructions - I think you're supposed to have a full tummy. If that doesn't help, after 12 weeks, you can stop them and take Vit D and an iron supplement if your iron bloods show you need it. Alternatively if you're still a way off 12 weeks, try taking something more basic like a Tesco own brand etc.

If I took them without food, they'd make me nauseous.
Taking them just after dinner worked really well for me.

Yaty · 05/12/2022 14:06

They 100% made me feel worse. When I switched to just a bog standard folic acid I felt miles better.

ronaldthecat · 05/12/2022 14:09

Yes, made me feel awful.

Disregard the above about folic acid.

I think I took the Seven Seas ones in the end.

SparkyBlue · 05/12/2022 14:33

Yes they did although at that stage everything made me sick unfortunately

Dal8257 · 05/12/2022 15:12

They made me feel awful as well. I just took the two things recommended by NHS separately: folic acid and vitamin D. I just bought the boots brand and was fine.

TheBirdintheCave · 05/12/2022 15:16

Yes, they definitely made me feel sick.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 05/12/2022 15:19

Yes pregnacare made me feel awful i switched to seven seas and was fine after that

DorritLittle · 05/12/2022 15:23

Only if I took them in the morning. You need a full tummy. I took them at night.

Spockrates · 05/12/2022 15:30

@FlyOnTheWall89 I am 17 weeks but was told its good to take pregnacare through the whole pregnancy as it helps with development etc I am taking the pregnacare plus right now but always feel so bad after it makes it so hard to find the willpower to continue taking them

@Spockrates I stopped at 16 weeks after consultation with my midwife who wasn't in the least bit concerned that I wanted to find an alternative. Folic acid is only required when the tubes are all still developing. You can take omega separately and Vit D too. She said at a minimum to take Vit D and iron if I was low on my bloods. I was also taking the pregnacare max. It's marketed to take the whole way through - doesn't mean it's actually necessary, particularly if you have a healthy diet with fish etc already! I felt much better once I stopped them. You could try just switching brands if you still want to take something throughout x

Bellesjp · 06/12/2022 09:54

Yes pregnacare made me feel sick! Have a look at different brand of prenatals, I use proceive from Holland and Barrett

FinalPushh · 06/12/2022 09:57

I used Pregnacare and took them after dinner in the evening and felt fine.

airwrapped · 06/12/2022 10:11

I took a 'food grown' vitamin when pregnant, it comes from actual food rather than being synthetically manufactured so you don't have to worry about feeling sick/taking with meals. The brand I used was wild nutrition and it was great
