Hi all :) has anyone or know anyone that has had a hernia while pregnant?
I have had an epicgastric hernia just above my belly button for about 5 years it used to be a little uncomfortable sometimes but nothing to bad, the dr said it was better to leave it alone. I am just 24 weeks pregnant and it does feel pretty sore especially after eating, I just wondered if anyone else has one or knows anyone who has in fine with it being sore but then I worry about it turning serious! I basically just wondered if it was common :) thank you x

I have an inguinal hernia, diagnosed when I was 5 weeks pregnant. I’m now 23 weeks. My consultant told me that they would not do anything in pregnancy unless it strangulates (when the bowel becomes trapped). Strangulation is severe pain and a medical emergency. The chances of this happening is very low and apparently decreases further from 24 weeks because uterus pushes the bowel out of the way (not sure if that’s the same as an epigastric hernia). Mine has been intermittently painful throughout. I have given it a massage and sometimes put a heating or ice pad on it and it usually passes. I was also told it wouldn’t impact my labour options. Always worth checking with the experts if you’re worried.
