Hi,

I'm 10 weeks pregnant and am looking into hospitals to give birth. My MW told me the nearest would be Stoke Mandeville.
Does anyone have a recent experience in this hospital?

Thank you

Most of my NCT group had their babies there and said they couldn't fault them. Also a friend who went there for her second after a bad experience somewhere else said the same. So I think you're in safe hands there.

Congratulations!
I had my third baby there and the care was amazing. They listened to what I wanted and tried to respect my wishes. And when it meant that something couldn't be done in a certain way because of certain risks , midwives and consultant done everything in their power to ensure I had a good experience and my baby was safe .
I am very grateful to them 💟

I had my baby there and was pretty happy with the care. I'll most likely have my second there too. Wexham I definitely wouldn't advise. John Radcliffe always hear great things about

I am planning to have my baby there next month. A lot of people I know have given birth there and really rated it.

Our 2 daughters were born there in 2015 and 2018. And our son will be born there in about 5 weeks time! Can't fault them, we have been so pleased with our experience there every time. Mine have all been c-sections.

Had both my DDs there (albeit a long time ago) it used to be my local hospital so everyone I knew had their babies there. Never heard anything negative

Well, I'm glad things seem to have changed over the years.

I had DS2 in Stoke Mandeville a long time ago and didn't rate it at all, though admittedly the day I had him was apparently exceptionally busy. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

By contrast, I had a great experience having DS1 at Wexham, I couldn't fault it, the care back then was excellent.

Both my sons were born at Stoke Mandeville. I had DS1 in Jan 2018 (induction, epidural & forceps intervention) and DS2 Jan 2022 (planned c-section).

Honestly the staff are brilliant, they go to a lot of effort to make you feel as comfortable as possible and I felt safe in their hands both times.

The down side to Stoke is that it's a very busy hospital and sometimes you are kept waiting for ages. Both times they didn't have a bed on the post natal ward after the birth and I was put in the antenatal ward, then moved later on.

If you can afford the private room; request it as soon as you arrive. There are only two and it's first come first serve; but you'll have a much more pleasant experience if you have to stay overnight.

Good luck!

My experience seems to be going against the grain. I had a baby there in 2009, induced. It was awful, the staff were overstretched and dismissive. I was kept on the ante natal ward in a 6 bed room until I was over 9cm dilated because they refused to examine me. Ended up pacing the corridors in labour because I didn't want to wake the other women. I was alone and petrified. Baby was born at 2am and I was discharged at 7am because they needed the bed. I was an absolutely clueless first time mum. I've since found out that both the induction gels and the pain medication they used (pethidine) are the cheapest available and not generally recommended.

Had another baby elsewhere 2 years later and saw how induction should be done. SM was terrible, verging on traumatic. I cried every time I thought about it for months. I really couldn't recommend it. This was obviously quite a while ago though.

I was recommended stoke mandeville as it is the closest hospital for me however i havn’t had great experiences in their paedatrics a&e in the past (very busy and slow) so i did a bit of research and found very gd reviews on wexham park in slough. Had my son there last year and they were absolutely amazingggg definitely recommend if its not too far from you
