Hi all, I’m currently 4+5 days pregnant and had brown discharge since Monday. It’s not a lot but really worrying me. I’ve had my hcg levels done which went from 516 to 1392 in 48 hours which I’m told is good but can’t help but worry. We have a scan on Wednesday at our IVF clinic. I’m losing my mind with worry. This baby is so wanted. Anyone got any positive stories please x

I‘m on a Sep/Oct FET thread where some of us had spotting, to begin with, and others have continued to spot. Brown is a good sign as it’s old blood. My spotting seemed to be from my cervix being so vascular since I’m on a lot of meds.

There are healthy, ongoing pregnancies on that thread now and we’re all between 8-16 weeks. My 12 week scan is next week. So hang in there! Spotting is so common especially after IVF 💛

My very bleedy pregnancy ivf toddler has just snuck into my bed for a cuddle. it's terrifying but try not to worry and take it a day at a time - its much more common to bleed with ivf pregnancies, anecdotally I'd say 80% of people I knew who had ivf had bleeds. Old blood is good but even red blood doesn't mean trouble

Ah thank you so much. Lovely to hear promising stories xx

Thank you for your reply. IVF is scary and sometimes it’s easy to feel alone. Good luck to you xx

I also had spotting in both of my successful pregnancies. They're now 18 and 16!! Good luck and try not to worry too much.

I've had brown spotting/discharge since Saturday. Got a scan at EPU on Thursday so I'm just hoping all is okay.

Whilst I don't believe in the whole 'unless it's red all is fine' thing, I have read many, many things online on forums from people who've had all sorts of spotting and been absolutely fine.

It's hard waiting for the scan though isn't it! Just hoping the days fly by.

I'm currently smiling at my noisy 9 week old miracle ivf baby.

I had bright red bleeding around 6weeks and again at 8weeks and I worried like hell until my scans!

Try not too worry too much! Easier said than done, but it doesn't always indicate bad news.

Fingers crossed for you!

@mandy20256

I had brown spotting on off from week 8 till week 16 (also IVF pregnancy). It looked like the way when your period is about to start.. I was on progesterone suppositories till week 12, had about 3-4 scans in that period due to the spotting. It stopped suddenly the day before I saw the consultant at the hospital (I was referred by the midwife due to the spotting at week 8 but took almost 2 months to get an appointment) and he said it’s very common with IVF pregnancies and being in progesterone suppositories. Baby is now 6 months old 🙏🏻

K2012 · 02/12/2022 08:33

@mandy20256 you could try to get in touch with your community midwife and ask if she can refer you for a scan at EPU

mandy20256 · 02/12/2022 08:51

I have a scan Wednesday morning at my IVF clinic. So I’ve got my fingers crossed x

I had early brown spotting with one loss and one successful pregnancy. Sorry that's not helpful, but just to say all you can do is take each day as it comes

gemloving · 02/12/2022 10:00

Never had an IVF pregnancy but had implantation spotting with both. With my second I thought I wasn't pregnant as my period came on but it was just the implantation spotting and then I got my positive result.

I had brown spotting with my IVF pregnancy, and then red spotting and then a BIG bleed. All before 8 weeks. I was absolutely terrified and sure that the worst had happened. And yet.. I've just dropped my daughter at nursery.

All was absolutely fine, she stayed happy and healthy despite the bleeds which turned out to be caused by an SCH (which I'm told is fairly common, especially in IVF pregnancies).
I assume you're on progesterone? If they're pesseries then that can cause some spotting. When I called the helpline with the brown spotting they reassured me that brown is old. Old is fine.

It's the most worrying thing to go through though and an awful wait to be seen for the scan. Got everything crossed for you. X

Noonesperfect · 02/12/2022 11:23

I bled at 10 weeks with my IVF baby and at about 30 weeks for several days. That baby is now 20 years old. I know it's hard but try not to worry. 🙏

mandy20256 · 02/12/2022 12:26

I’ve just had more brown discharge with a little fresh blood. Called the EPU until and they have said they will try to scan me today. Not feeling very positive now. It’s a shame 😞

Hope they manage to scan you. Thinking of you. I've been where you are. I really feel for you.

Melusina123 · 02/12/2022 14:00

I had quite a lot (2tbsp?) of bright red blood at 6w, turned out to be a subchorionic haematoma. Red blood for a couple of days, then brown blood in reducing frequency until 10w. All looked ok at 12w scan, and now 18w. So it might be bad news, but it might not. It's good you're getting scanned!

mandy20256 · 03/12/2022 10:10

Had a scan yesterday, baby is in the right place but too small to see a heartbeat. Bloods came back good so that’s positive. Just a waiting game. Thank you everyone for your replies x

Amazing that everything looks so good so far!! All really positive news. Got everything crossed for you and little bean.

Ruby7686 · 03/12/2022 21:53

12 weeks here with donor egg IVF. I spotted every day from week 5-7 and it was so worrying but it’s absolutely fine. Good luck honey xx

QuiltedHippo · 04/12/2022 08:15

Great news, one day at a time

mandy20256 · 08/12/2022 10:28

So I had my scan yesterday and they couldn’t find a heartbeat. Could be early but I think this is the end of the road. I’ve had my hcg levels done and they are 12000. Have to go back Monday for another scan to see if it’s was too early. Has this happened to anyone before? Thank you

OP posts:
pippabg · 08/12/2022 10:40

I can't speak from experience with the scan, but I've read that its not uncommon for heartbeats not be detectable until 6/7 weeks. Are you just under 6 weeks now?

Not IVF pregnancy, but I had brown/pink spotting at 6 weeks with some streaks of red. It continued on and off until 9 weeks and I'm currently 13 weeks.

First scan I had after the spotting was at 6 weeks 3 days and they saw a heartbeat, but who knows if they would have seen it the week before. It can go either way at this stage, but I don't think you're out yet.

rach971 · 08/12/2022 18:15

You're 5+6 now aren't you? I had a scan in my last pregnancy at 5+5 and it was literally a dot and they could only just make out the heart beat. Plenty of people don't see a heartbeat until 6+ weeks so I wouldn't worry too much, it's common to not find it that early.

Woopdaboo · 09/12/2022 02:16

I had my first scan at about 6 weeks and the dr explicitly said they wont look for a heartbeat, just wanted to check pregnancy was in the right place. Id had spotting and my hcg levels were shit. Its not over till its over. Wishing you the best
