Missed miscarriage

I found out today I had a missed miscarriage, I started bleeding today. I should have been 11 + 5 but they think the baby stopped growing a couple of weeks or so before then and there was no heartbeat. Just wondering how long it takes for the bleeding to subside. When did you try again? I'm very sad but it I have a strong desire to be pregnant again.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately, the time for bleeding to stop varies from person to person. I would recommend you take a pregnancy test in 2-3 weeks until you get a negative so you know that everything is cleared and also that any positive is a new pregnancy. There's nothing to stop you trying again straight away.

seaduck · 01/12/2022 20:18

So sorry OP. Mine was over in 4-5 days or so from the initial bleeding and died down really quickly once the obvious clots had passed. Will you be going back for a follow up scan at some point?

I understand that desire to be pregnant, I found it overwhelming actually. I fell pregnant again two weeks later before I even had another period so was lucky on that front. I had no idea when I was ovulating and we didnt make a big conscious effort to try that month as I was still mainly reeling from the shock.

All the best.

This happened to me 15ys ago and year my baby’s heartbeat they think stopped at 8week. I bled for just over a week and you can try as soon as your ready x

blebbleb · 01/12/2022 20:28

Thanks everyone. Feel quite sad and empty at the moment but that's to be expected I guess. Good to know I can try again when I'm ready. They said I could go for a scan in a couple of weeks if I wanted to. Will just see how the bleeding goes x

It’s the worst feeling in the world it and I know what you mean by that empty feeling for me it completely changed me as person. I tried straight away and my son is 14 now x

So sorry op. I had my baby within a year of my MMC.

I was spotting for a few days then bleeding for about a week, I actually passed the sac in tact after some extreme cramps. I was told it would be like a heavy period but actually it was really similar to labour for about 2 hours.

blebbleb · 02/12/2022 03:54

@readingegg sorry you were in so much pain. The doctor did say I should get some codeine from my GP in preparation. Did you need strong painkillers?

So sorry. About a week bleeding I would think. Nothing should stop the possiblity that you could get pregnant again next cycle.

So sorry op. I should also be about 11.5wks but had a missed miscarriage a couple of weeks ago. I had a scan at 8.5 weeks due to a previous mmc and found out then. Bleeding started a week later and went on for about 4-5 days in total. It was particularly bad for about 12 hours where I stayed pretty much on or very near the toilet. Take the painkillers and be kind to yourself. I took 2 weeks from work and spent most of it on the sofa. 3 weeks later my body feels back to normal, emotionally I am way better than I was but it's awfully hard and its still hitting me hard at times.

SareBear87 · 02/12/2022 05:22

I'm so sorry for you loss.
I had a mmc in Oct '21 - basically the same as you except we only found at the scan.
I was absolutely heartbroken but was pregnant again 4 months later and now cuddling our 1 month old.
I didn't find the bleeding painful physically (no more so than a heavy period) but did struggle mentally with it.
Take care of yourself x

I am so so sorry to hear this OP.

If you don’t mind, can I please ask what you did when you realised you were bleeding? Did you call 111? Go straight into the hospital? Was this before you first scan?

Buffyfan26 · 02/12/2022 06:30

Hi OP, I had a MMC before my first at the same gestation. I had heavy bleeding and severe cramping, contraction like and it was over within a few days. I then went to the hospital for a follow up scan to check that everything had gone and the consultant told me to wait for 2 periods before I tried again as I might have been more likely to miscarry again. I don’t know if this is true but I did wait and have gone on to have two children x

rach971 · 02/12/2022 08:10

With my MMC we found out at 7+5 and baby had stopped growing at 7. I bled for two weeks. The heavy bleeding only lasted a couple of days or so, and then it was more like a period for the rest of the time.

You can try again as soon as you stop bleeding really, but it's recommended you wait until after your first period just for dating purposes. Do take a pregnancy test before you start trying though, to make sure it's negative. I started trying again about 9/10 weeks after mine. My HCG took forever to come down, so I was still technically 'pregnant' for a while. So I couldn't try until it came down to a non-pregnant level.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I have a 2 year old son. First and only pregnancy before this so the miscarriage took me by surprise. I know it's common but I really wasn't expecting it, and was so looking forward to another little family member in June. I know it will happen again at some point in the future though. Waiting on a call this morning from the GP for some stronger painkillers.

@Chocolotandtea i started bleeding yesterday around 4am. Got up for a wee and noticed my panty liner had bright red blood on it which didn't feel right. It wasn't really heavy but it definitely wasn't spotting. I tried to call my "24 hour" maternity unit line but no one was around. I called 111 and they said I should go to an early pregnancy assessment unit. They sent to referral to my GP but they weren't open for another hour so I called to double check. In the end my GP said there was a local walk in one which I went to. I live in London and went to St George's. Around an go wait to be seen but they were great. If I ever had issues like that I'd just try to go to another walk in clearly pregnancy unit. Definitely get checked if you're concerned. They said don't go to a&e unless you're in unbearable agony or bleeding uncontrollably x

Thanks for taking the time to write that @blebbleb and I’m so sorry this happened to you.

Unfortunately and very sadly these things happen all to frequently and we are never told what to do in these situations xx
