When did everybody start packing their hospital bag?

Expecting DS2 and currently 30 weeks. Cannot for the life of me remember when I started packing my bag.
A friend of mine who recently had a baby said hers was fully packed by now! I'm thinking it's too early and was going to wait until around 34/35 weeks.

Out of curiosity, when did everyone else pack their hospital bag and have it ready?

Never did pack a bag. Knowing me if I had I’d have only unpacked it at some point anyway.

MistyFrequencies · 01/12/2022 11:26

I was like you with baby 2 and he arrived in a serious rush (3 hrs from first 'twinge' to holding baby) at 34 weeks on the dot and i had nothing ready.

Jellyphants · 01/12/2022 11:27

37+ 3, going to do mine today 😅

TeddyBeans · 01/12/2022 11:30

I'm 27 weeks and have mine 90% packed. I'm at risk of preeclampsia so rather have them ready to go in case we have to go early

Nursemumma92 · 01/12/2022 13:49

I'm 37 weeks and just done mine today 🤦‍♀️ have had it half packed for a couple of weeks it's just taken me a bit of time to get organised this time round. First time I'd done it at about 34 weeks.

hopingfor23 · 01/12/2022 15:19

34 weeks and hve done baby bag and half done mine!

harly5 · 01/12/2022 15:22

With the first it was about 37/38 weeks. I'm currently 32 and have started to buy bits but in no rush to pack it just yet

Caspianberg · 01/12/2022 15:26

Started about 30 weeks. Mainly so anything bought or washed and ready was in one place. Covid hit at 36 weeks, all our shops closed until after he was born, so I was glad I did early

MumChats · 01/12/2022 15:30

First time... about 35 weeks. Second time 39 weeks. As the midwife said "I'm sure you'll have time to get a bag together in early labour" I wouldn't worry :)

Meggymoo777 · 01/12/2022 15:39

Was really weird actually... I got in this sudden panic that I needed to pack a bag at about 37weeks. When I was ironing baby grows (oh how foolish I was) my little boy turned to head down position. I was completely freaked out to be honest, watched my tummy and all the movement with amazement/horror 😂 It was almost like my body told me when it was time to pack a bag and get ready. He was born 2weeks after 😊

I had threatened labour with my 3rd at 31 weeks went in with nothing as I thought just a precaution but I was kept in a week total bed rest. A friend had to grab things stuff for me and take to hospital (partner would not have been as useful in that dept). I made the bag when I came home - still on bed rest but at home. My older 2 I made bag at 35 weeks a both born at 37 weeks. My 3 after all the drama came very quickly but at 38 weeks

Inasec24 · 01/12/2022 17:59

First baby about 20 weeks 😂
Second baby never got round to it and had him at home in the end anyway.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 01/12/2022 18:01

I'm 36+2 weeks and have had mine packed since 30 weeks. I've fiddled with it a fair few times but it's good to go!

Wishing you the best of luck with your pregnancy!

MadamMaltesers · 02/12/2022 01:53

First pregnancy nothing packed at 30 week, then had pprom and an emergency csec at 31w. I was not prepared in the slightest. This time I started packing at 37w, thankfully managed to pack before things kicked off.

Chanel05 · 02/12/2022 15:07

I did mine with my first at 34 weeks.

I'm 37+1 and did my bag yesterday for dc2.

Such a variety of answers, thank you all!

I haven't even started to get the baby stuff out from the attic yet so I really need to get a move on I think. It's amazing how you feel you have plenty of time and then suddenly, you blink and time has gone!

I will get cracking with my hospital bag around Xmas time I think.

I haven't packed my hospital bag yet. My children are 13 and 10 years old. 🤷🏻

I may have missed the boat on that one.

36 weeks. Snacks bag a bit later than that.

DH was still faffing about with his as I was shouting at him that we needed to go to the hospital NOW (at 41+3) which I knew would happen 😀

FebMama · 03/12/2022 10:15

@Meggymoo777 thank you so much!

@NigellasMicrowave sounds a bit like my DH! He didn't pack a bag for himself until I called him from the hospital after a routine appointment at 39 weeks and told him that I was being induced there and then and not coming back home until DS1 was out... never seen him do anything so quickly in my life!

Same here. It was quite stressful trying to make a list of what I might and what was clean and to hand, whilst contracting worrying about prem birth, and making plans with the drs.

Would recommend having the bag packed from 30 weeks.

I also went in as an emergency at 30w and was in for over a week - had grabbed my toothbrush and phone charger on the way out the house and DH brought an overnight bag later.

If packing ‘early’ I’d do separate mum and baby bags - I would not have wanted a bag of newborn size baby vests with me whilst talking about emergency delivery of my 3lb baby…
