Diastasis recti

Hoping for some collective wisdom from the wonderful mumsnet... I'm just entering my second trimester and the bloating/ gut pain is awful! My abs have separated by about four fingers and things like sitting up are causing coning. Has anyone had any experience of diastasis recti early in pregnancy? Did you do anything about it e.g. physio?

Your abs do need to separate for the bump to grow You can’t really do any exercises for it during pregnancy (and definitely don’t do any core work in second tri onwards) but one thing that my yoga teacher recommended in second tri was to never sit up from lying on your back and always turn onto your side and sit up that way. Post delivery I’d recommend seeing a physio that is trained in the mummy mot so that they can do a proper postnatal check and see how the separation is then. Mine is absolutely fine five months after birth and I didn’t do anything in particular in pregnancy apart from watching how I got up from lying down.

for the bloating I found peppermint tea and walking as much as possible helped! Also big advocate for pregnancy yoga as well
